The Computer Voice

If Majel is unavailable, they should get Leslie Hendrix to do the computer voice.

(She plays the medical examiner, Elizabeth Rodgers, on Law & Order. Her voice sounds a lot like Majel's.)
Does she do/has she done voice work?

Edit:

No, looks like. In fact, she seems to have done very little other than playing Dr. Rogers. Not having seen her in that role, I couldn't say whether that's good or bad.

Jenna Jamison has been cast as the computer voice.

Honestly.

No kidding--scout's honor.

Why are you looking at me like that?
:alienblush:

Personally, I would love to hear the Lovely Lady Majel as the computer voice.
I noticed there is no credit listed for anyone as the computer voice. See my Cast List thread.

Whoever they get to do the computer voice, I really hope they get rid of that lameass typewriter noise that always used to come up in TOS whenever the computer spoke.

I agree... in its time it was a kinda futuristic sound, but now it's just lame. :vulcan:

I don't see why there needs to be a computer voice in the movie at all. The only memorable use of it that I can recall is the self-destruct sequence in First Contact, mostly it's merely used to spout technobabble and other inanities that the movie could probably do without.

I agree. A computer voice isn't necessarily.

A character can simply say "Well according to the computer...."

It's not necessary, but Star Trek has always had a talking computer. JJ would be defying canon if he didn't have it say something. It has to say "Access denied," Unable to comply," or "Go do it yourself." ;)

That and the already mentioned self destruct in STIII.
Out of the versions in the movies and TV shows Ive always prefered the STIII Enterprise (the countdown was a "really!?" moment and Excelsior (because Excelsiors was broke)

I know many may disagree but the TNG era I found annoying and the TOS as well especially with the typewriter sound.

They should get Dick Tufeld and make the computer sound like the Lost in Space robot.

"Warning! Warning Jim Kirk! Aliens approaching! Warning!"

Naah, then it'd have to be "Danger! Danger!" with arm-waving, and I can hear strict-canon heads exploding all over the planet at the very thought.

Edward James Olmos has a good voice.

And when the crew asks the computer to do something impossible, Adama's face could just appear on the viewscreen, looking all pissed off.

I love the idea of a computer that can give The Look.

I don't want any "WORK-ING." But I also don't want "Hi there, I'm your happy ship's computer! Nice to see ya! Gee, Captain, you look great!"

"Hi there, this is Eddie your shipboard computer, and I just want to mention that there seems to be something jamming my guidance systems. Impact in ten seconds. Please call me Eddie if it will help you relax."

In ENT's time, the computer didn't talk. Crewmembers could talk to it, but not the reverse.

As for this film: Is it true that Majel is in ill health? :( If not, I'm sure she would be happy to loan out her voice. She could probably even do it from her home. It would be probably the only time Majel would ever be accused of 'phoning it in'.

I say she should be the voice at least in this film. If sequals are made, and if she does not wish to continue (Majel Barrett) then the films could follow continuity of future Kirk films and use other people as the voice.

Being the computer voice was the best role Majel ever had in Trek. And she did it so well. I'd be disappointed (but not terribly so) if she wasn't tapped to do it again.
