The Command Styles of Archer and Pike: A Study

Jessie Gender posted a fantastic analysis of the command styles of both Jonathan Archer and Christopher Pike back in January and I missed the video until now. It's a fascinating video that shows how both characters represent the wonder of exploration and a warm relationship with one's crew more than any other Captains in the franchise and I'd love to hear some feedback on it.

Claims Sisko kept the crew at a distance? He invites them to his quarters for a home-made dinner for cripes sake!

Also, I always feel compelled to bring up the time that Pike blew the prime directive to hell just because Kelpiens are "nice". Surely that deserves to be in a study of command style, especially in the section on specism.

Wasn't Sisko more of an "invite Dax" kind of guy when it came to dinner? Otherwise it was mostly himself and Jake or himself and Kasidy Yates?

But Pike's refusal to enforce the Prime Directive would kind of fall in line where Kirk routinely fell, ignoring it when convenient and when it felt right to do so. So Pike definitely fits in with certain other mid-to-late 23rd century Starfleet commanders in that regard.

Wasn't Sisko more of an "invite Dax" kind of guy when it came to dinner? Otherwise it was mostly himself and Jake or himself and Kasidy Yates?

There were a few occasions where Sisko had the whole senior staff over for dinner. I can't remember specific episodes at the moment, but off the top of my head I remember one where he ended up teaching Odo to stir a pot, and another just before the Dominion War started where everyone was moody over the impending prospect of war, though Worf was just being a wallflower staring at the things Sisko had hanging on the wall. When everyone left, Worf was still staring at the decorations when Sisko had to let him know that everyone else was gone.

I don't bring it up to bash the character, as far as I'm concerned Trek isn't only about the characters making the right choices. The video compares and contrasts the command styles of two characters and also goes into how they treat different species differently, so it's relevant.
