The Colony - USA Network

^I don't think it has. We did see a "launch" of something but we really don't very much about it.

I wouldn't be totally surprised if it is actually some other than just average extraterrestrials.

Well, they refer to "The Arrival" constantly, and they're hidden overlords are using advanced technology for incomprehensible reasons. Sometimes you don't have to use the word for it to be obvious what something is.

Or what, does the Walking Dead not feature zombies, too?

What advanced technology have we seen really?
Drones? Amazon must be run by aliens then.
A big wall? I knew those chinese were from another planet!!!
A light in the sky? Well, then anyone that makes fireworks is not of this world.

At this point the writers of the show are hedging thier bets by not revealing concretely whether it's actual aliens or not. Gives them time to see what direction the show organically grows before they commit to one direction or another with the overall mythos.

A wall of that magnitude would have taken several years to create by human standards. The implication on the show is that it has only been a few years at most, since the "The Arrival". It is just not conceivable that this is anything else but 'Aliens'.

They could be some kind of secret super advanced group, or maybe people from the future, or a parallel reality. There are still options other than aliens.

Feel free to show me any drones Amazon (or anyone else) of a similar technological level. Then explain why they look like they're really old on top of that.

On that topic...

And the central drama of Colony is not, Who are these aliens, and why are they here? It’s really the story of this family, and are they going to be able to survive these circumstances. We have incredibly little exposure to these aliens in the first season of the show, and that’s intentional.

So they definitely are aliens? In some early interviews, you were reluctant to describe them as such.

Well, we’re kind of keeping it a secret for a while. They arealiens in some semantic definition of the world—they possess technology that we do not have. But the specific nature of who they are and what they’re doing is [pause] … we steered away from calling them aliens, because it’s not V or Falling Skies. Ryan and I see the show as a family drama first, an espionage drama second, and a science fiction show third.[\quote]

Similar to what? It hovered, it had a camera. It had flashing lights. It flew really fast. China just unveiled a drone large enough to carry a passenger. Israel just revealed a drone that can carry up to 4 people. The drones on the show haven't done anything yet that current drones can't do.

What makes you think the ones on the show look old? They looked rather shiny to me.

Just remember... These are the same geniuses that wrote Lost.

Obviously you can decide for your self which defeinition of the word geniuses

Image of one of the drones.

That's what makes them look old: The fact that they look old.

Still waiting for a sample of a modern drone that looks anything like that. Particularly a small, compact, hovering one with a complete and utter lack of any propellers or even jets.

got me? just going by what the woman boss said in the episode.

I took the line "our defenses" to mean either US defenses or world defenses.

It's more than just the wall. The Internet seems to be out. There is no communication with anyone over the wall. No ham radios, no CB, no shortwave.

Apparently there are no longer any US military forces in service. Or any foreign military for that matter.

Those drones, as noted, do not appear to have any conventional means of propulsion.

Someone above was turned off because the trackers were not functioning on the Homeland Security cars. This assumes the locators were still installed and active or that they could still function in this current environment.

Something on a massive scale has happened to get the United States and, presumably, the whole world, into this state. Massive enough that plenty of people have rolled over and become lapdogs of the occupation force. We see no alien soldiers or anyone other than what appear to be native humans, yet plenty are now operating as soldiers and police for the occupying force.

All of this implies a technology on some level that can overpower the US military plus prevent any transmissions of any kind and take down the Internet plus build a massive wall around multiple locations and sway enough people to their side that they don't have to use any of their own troops.

To be honest, not sure what in that picture is supposed to look "old"? It looks like a well oiled machine to me. Besides, this is supposed to be what? at least 6 months in? These drones have seen some use. They're not fresh off the showroom floor.

Be honest here though, this is a tv version of reality. The things we've seen so far are definitely in the realm of current technology as presented in the show. There's nothing there yet that screams "alien".

I'll wait until we see an alien in the flesh or one of our characters leaving earth in a starship. We even have a quote in post 50 stating the answer isn't that clear yet.

No, current technology -- TV Land or not -- does not have anti-grav technology. And those drones definitely look old, your personal refusal to admit it notwithstanding.

What anti-gravity technology? Who said it was anti-gravity on the show? What makes you think the drone looks old?

Okay that was a bunch of new info including a description of what is over the wall !!

Also are they calling the invaders "raps"? "rafs"? Can't quite hear it.

It's the only descriptor that fits. They don't use jets, they don't use propellers, they don't even have wings; they just float around. As for the age, the rust-like deterioration is a big indicator.

Oh, and they also have uberpowerful particle beam weapons of some sort. But let me guess, that's typical tech levels for a modern day setting, too?
