We have seen nose art and similar art features on Grand Army of the Republic craft and helmets before. This seems to be encouraged by some of the Jedi as a means for the clones to expressed their individuality. Their creators don't see this as useful, as they prefer their product to be uniform in general. The Empire would also discourage such things, even when the army was no longer made of clones.

I find pin ups annoying, specifically. Nose art less so though it feels very strange to me.

You can kind of get away with something with an actress or singer since that tends to fit their image, but it feels especially innapropriate for someone like Padme.

I was highlighting my irritation at the pin up art, which I had commented upon earlier in the thread.

It is hyperbolic...partially.

Sometimes, at conventions, I help run a table top miniatures game bases on the Battle of the Grassy Plains from The Phantom Menace. The rules we use are card based, red suites for Gungan forces and black suites for Trade Federation forces. We use official Star Wars playing card decks because there are lots of those, and each deck has three Jokers. One of those decks is a "Ladies of Star Wars" deck. Hearts are all shots of Leia. Diamonds are all shots of Padme. The remainder of the cards are anyone else. There are a lot of potential pin up shots of Padme, mostly because Portman is rather good looking, and Lucasfilm made her an army of costumes. But Carrie Fisher, having less outfits, still has the same amount of images.

Why the clones might notice the senator from Naboo is anyone's guess. Clearly at least some of the clones have a similar taste as General Skywalker.

I mean, the clones are fighting a war on behalf of a population which more or less regards them as expendable cannon fodder. Padme was a leading voice advocating for acceptable peace. I don't think it's too much of a stretch to imagine that the clones saw her as someone who valued their lives. Something rare. Part of the bond between the clones and the best of the Jedi was born specifically from the fact that those Jedi saw the clones as honest to the Force people, worthy of respect and consideration as both troopers and individuals. And regardless she was one of the leading voices of the Republic Senate, not that you'd know it from Revenge of the Sith. She was probably pretty well known.

And that's before we even get into the impact that someone who looks like Natalie Portman could have on troopers who spend all day stuck with either other dudes who look exactly like them, or with the Jedi. Who aren't exactly known for their social skills.

According to Dave at the premier, Padme only shows up a few times this season, and he didn’t want one of them to be the nose art.

Besides, it showed up in Rebels, which has a lower age rating than Clone Wars, so censorship wouldn’t have made any sense. Though maybe the dialogue that went with it might have been an issue.

OK guys, first off the nose art thing is fine in the context in which it was initially presented. Anyone who thinks otherwise has obviously never spent any time around soldiers. Clones aren't droids. They're humans and they've already been show to have "interests" outside of soldiering (though mainly centring on female Twi's.) It may not be the most progressive view of women, but you have a whole army of people who's only contact with members of the opposite sex are Jedi, the dancers at 79's and whatever they can get off the holonet between battles...so this kind of thing is to be expected.

Secondly, it's removal from the episode is also fine. The point of the original joke was to show off that Rex knew about Anakin and Padme. The extended scene we got between them makes the gag redundant, and having the nose art just be there without any comment being made would be bizarre, so away it should go.

I count this as a net positive since the aforementioned new scene actually has some substance and character development for Anakin, Padme, Rex and even Obi-Wan. Indeed all the changes to this and the previous episode seem tailored to refocus the story on the characters in the lead up to the impending conclusion.
As I suspected before the show even aired, they seem to be retooling this arc to be Rex's arc rather than what it was before; "the Bad Batch are awesome arc" with Rex mostly just along for the ride.

I look forward to seeing what else they've changed about the next two epsodes.

Nobody said you had to like it. I don't like pin-ups either. Yet they exist.

For the record I literally grew up on an army camp, and have worked in places that are 99% male dominated (including on building sites.) When you get that many men together in one place spending that much time in each other's company this kind of puerile crap is just the reality, along with the dirty jokes and casual misogyny. It's also why ships are by tradition referred to with female pronouns and why the old wooden sailing vessels had naked women carved into the bow.
Incidentally, I've also worked in places that are 99% female and you get pretty much the same result, just expressed a little differently. People will be people.

This isn't the hill I want to die so I'll just leave it at this. I am for people being people in lots of different contexts. I don't think in an animated kids show that is is necessary nor appropriate. I see no reason to include it. The "boys will be boys" argument doesn't work for me in this context.

The only thing I'll add is that I'll take honest an ugly over dishonest and pretty anytime. Sometimes, a thing not being appropriate is kinda the point, like it or not.
