The Green Hornet
"May the Best Man Lose"
Originally aired December 23, 1966

An election episode for Christmas! They missed an opportunity to have Scanlon's opponent dig up dirt on his connection to the Green Hornet...but the connection did factor into the plot in a roundabout way...using Scanlon's record of not managing to apprehend the Hornet against him.

And so 1966 comes to a close in Hornet-land. (Does his city have a name, or is it supposed to be New York or L.A.?)

*******

Looks like Me-TV is getting Dragnet and Adam-12 back in 2017. By fortunate timing, Cozi will be finishing Adam-12 the last day that they're running the show (the 30th), so I'll have them all DVR'ed. They're even playing an extra episode one day to accommodate this (as well as the fact that the last two episodes are a two-parter).

(I'd be happy to see Adam-12 back on Me if, y'know, I got Me these days....)

Going to try to work in the Christmas episodes of shows I've been recording tomorrow...The Avengers, "Too Many Christmas Trees"; The Man from UNCLE, "The Jingle Bells Affair"; three Christmas episodes of Adam-12. (I just watched Season 1's yellow dump truck episode not that long ago, but Me or Cozi has usually played it on Black Friday or Christmas Eve day, so it's got tradition on its side.)

It was always nameless, until the Dynamite Comics series starting in 2010. Apparently Dynamite did two different continuities -- a "Year One" miniseries by Matt Wagner in which the Hornet was based in Chicago, and a ongoing Kevin Smith series in which he was based in "Century City."

True--so even if Scanlon appears clean on the surface, he cannot escape criticism (deserved or not) of failing to bring GH & K to justice.

And so 1966 comes to a close in Hornet-land.

...a the beginning of Fox marketing attempting to increase ratings with a then-promised crossover with Batman airing only a couple of months later (the beginning of March).

In order for the GH & K to conveniently drive to Gotham City ("A Piece of the Action"), it should be assumed GH's city is on the east coast.

TMFU, "The Jingle Bells Affair": Macy's factored into the story so prominently that I have to wonder if they sponsored the episode.

Aired in Feb. 1970, so his official active status was still "Beatle" at that point.

"Have this one shaved and sent to my room." :rommie:

How did we get a season three episode on Monday? It was season one last night. Are they showing them out of order?

Got me...haven't been paying too much attention.

ETA: A Green Lantern reference on Gomer Pyle...it was the name of a restaurant, but still....

Decades has been playing a Laugh-In today from the last week of 1969 with an emphasis on the end of the decade. That really kicks up the Auld Lang Syne factor for me, since 1969 was my first year on Earth, in or out of the womb. The most important year that I completely forgot.

Regarding the upcoming schedule...apparently the daily binges are on weekly rather than monthly themes now, as they've been advertising next week's as a 1957 theme. The week after:

Mon., 01/09: The Beverly Hillbillies
Tues., 01/10: The Big Valley
Wed., 01/11: Star Trek
Thur., 01/12: The Lucy Show
Fri., 01/13: Family Affair
Sat., 01/14 - Sun., 01/15: Mission: Impossible

1967, perhaps? And a partial look at the week after that could suggest a 1977 theme:

Mon., 01/16: Barnaby Jones
Tues., 01/17: The Mary Tyler Moore Show
Wed., 01/18: Hawaii Five-O

H&I plays plenty of stuff from the '80s and '90s, so I'm calling 1987 after that, and 1997 is also a possibility. Guess that would add up to a monthly theme...years ending in 7.

Aw, man, I wish I had seen that. I didn't even turn on the TV yesterday (well, except to watch Days of Future Past on DVD, which I got for Christmas).

Looks like the Binge for this weekend is Our Miss Brooks, which is good, but not great. I have fond memories of watching it in junior high with my Mother-- Channel 56 used to run a block of "old" shows at 10pm in the Summer. Two shows per night. I remember Our Miss Brooks was on, Dobie Gillis, and Topper. I can't think of any of the others at the moment.
