With a little more than a month to go before that special time of year, has anyone started thinking about what they'll be getting their family/friends this year?
In my case, I'll be getting Mom the DVDs of the 80s The Thorn Birds miniseries; I gave her the book previously (either for Mother's Day or Christmas one time), so this'll be a follow-up (I also considered the new HBO DVDs of No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency, since I gave her the first book in that series a year or so ago and turned her into a huge Alexander McCall Smith fan).
Dad's always hard to shop for; I generally like buying books, but his eyesight has failed so badly the last few years that he really can't read anymore; and he's not exactly media-oriented. But I'm going to get him the DVD of Star Trek XI - he doesn't like Trek (went to see TMP in 1979, was bored out of his skull, hasn't looked back), but I'm going to make him like it, damnit.
