The Christmas shopping thread

With a little more than a month to go before that special time of year, has anyone started thinking about what they'll be getting their family/friends this year?

In my case, I'll be getting Mom the DVDs of the 80s The Thorn Birds miniseries; I gave her the book previously (either for Mother's Day or Christmas one time), so this'll be a follow-up (I also considered the new HBO DVDs of No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency, since I gave her the first book in that series a year or so ago and turned her into a huge Alexander McCall Smith fan).

Dad's always hard to shop for; I generally like buying books, but his eyesight has failed so badly the last few years that he really can't read anymore; and he's not exactly media-oriented. But I'm going to get him the DVD of Star Trek XI - he doesn't like Trek (went to see TMP in 1979, was bored out of his skull, hasn't looked back), but I'm going to make him like it, damnit.

Haven't any thoughts about christmas shopping. Don't think that I will be shopping for my family this year, because I'll be quite busy move to my new place.

At least I'll be giving this book to young one, Stefan. I don't know what book should I give it to him.

Well, I was chosen to organize Secret Santa Stockings. My mother continued to stuff our stockings up through our teens, then one year my sisters and I decided to surprise our parents by stuffing theirs. That evolved into a Secret Santa for stockings. It's really fun! We usually do a $50 budget but since everyone is poor this year it'll be $35. I drew the names and so I know my brother-in-law is stuffing mine and I've got my sister. I've no idea what I'm going to get everyone for regular gifts, though.

I'm getting gift cards for everyone, unless they tell me specifically what they want. None of this guessing for me. I only get people what I know they want, or can use. And you can't go wrong with a gift card.

As for me? I asked my aunt for a Mets jacket (to match my Yankees jacket) and my dad for this. :techman:

little miss trampledamage's birthday is in December and young master trampledamage's is in January and I have to buy gifts for them to be from the grandparents too because they're back in England and Ireland, so I do it to save airmail costs. So I've been figuring out gifts for a long time now!

The wife is a huge fan of The Big Bang Theory and BSG so I just ordered her this...

Already bought all of a tv series for my mom, along with a fair amount of bits and pieces for her stocking. Working on loading a digital photo frame for my grandfather. Will pick up something for my brother, probably a DVD set. I still need a b-day present for my mom, though.

I always make some presents- cross stitched pictures and jewelry. Of course I also buy stuff. I have my eye on a teapot for my mom, and Curious George toys for Dad (he collects them).

You're going to by your father a dvd of a tv show he hates and can't see much of anyway? Don't you like him? Why not get him some audio books or something he'll enjoy?

Please don't lynch me, frustrated shoppers, but I love Cristmas shopping. Buying everyone presents is honestly one of my favourite activities in any given year. :)

I've been pretty successful with my Christmas shopping this year. I managed to sort out quite a few relatives, including some "difficult to buy for" members of the family. Mr WB and I have decided to do our usual and not buy for each other. We'd rather save our cash for holidays.

He's a big Star Wars fan, so I think the new Trek will be more his speed. I didn't relent in my quest to make him like The Simpsons and South Park, so I'm not giving up here.

:D I love Christmas shopping and absolutely anything to do with Christmas. After 4th of July is over, I secretly start counting down until the Christmas season. I do all the wrapping in our house because I enjoy it so much. My husband got a lucky break on that one since he could care less about holidays...

I've already bought treat canisters for the chocolate covered pretzels and fudge I plan to make. I give those out to acquaintances/coworkers. I give one per family to the people I actually buy gifts for, too.

Yay! I'm not alone!
