The Cheap Sets of "Nemesis"

I'm surprised the Romulan Warbird bridge hasn't been mentioned; its obvious when you know about it.

That's a great example too. It was pretty obvious.

I think this was done mainly because they spent a lot of money rebuilding the Ent-E bridge on an elevated, shaking platform for more "realistic" hits during the battles. They probably wanted to match the effect for the Romulan bridge, thinking that mixing the two shaking styles might look weird. Since they didn't have the money or space to build the Romulan bridge on such a platform too, they just redressed the Ent-E bridge.

But I don't think the shaking sets paid off all that well, so I don't think it was worth the cost to do it.

Okay...I like this kind of conversation...but I have no idea what set your are both talking about. Please elaborate for us common folk!!!

... which was rebuilt on a shaking platform:

The whole film looked cheap. The lighting didn't help either. It's like they went out of their way to make everyone (mainly the ladies (mainly Troi)) look bad.

not to mention that HORRIBLE, HORRIBLE, stellar cartography set
fucking gray cardboard POS

Ah, yes, how could I have forgotten that!?

I guess Starfleet cut back on the Stellar Cartography budget for the E-E compared to the E-D:

Of course, Stellar Cartography wasn't always so great on the E-D:

The stellar cartography set for Generations was so impressive because it was the scene that explained the path of the ribbon and what destroying stars did to it. I would have been OK if that set was used again for subsequent flicks.

Re: That stellar cartography screen-cap from Generations.

It's possible, just possible, that on a ship the size of the Enterprise-D, charged with the task of exploring the vast reaches of the galaxy on a 20-year mission; that stellar cartography is a department made up of several labs and rooms. The room we seen Neela Darren in is obviously a lab and the room we see Data and Picard use in "Generations" is obviously a "terminal" room to utilize SC to it's fullest extent.

Let me start by saying that I am not a Nemesis hater. In fact, I think that, despite its flaws, it was an improvement over Insurrection.

One thing that Insurrection had, though, was a good amount of money spent on locating shooting, building an entire village, and sets like the Sona rejuvenation hall. I had issues with the Sona bridge until the concept behind it, their love of extravagance, was explained in the Insurrection design book.

Nemesis, though, had a number of cheap-looking sets and didn't even go on location for the wedding scene.

Good observations there. I am quite surprised to see all that evidence laid out in front of me and must concur.
Looking at it again, I still can't work out where the wedding set is meant to be. I mean, is it meant to be outdoors or is that a projected background in an indoor room in some Starfleet command function hall?.
Also the Sickbay sets are very poor.

I think the wedding was set in Alaska since Riker is from Alaska, the second wedding was to be on Troi's homeworld and in the nude.

Nonsense, they have planetary climate control. They can always just crank the heat up, unless Alaska's heater is the same model installed in the 1992 Buick Century.
