The characters make me watch Voyager!

There is just something about the characters and their interactions on Voyager that keeps me enjoying the show. The plotting and episodes aren't exactly original, but I enjoy watching the people so much that I'll watch most any episode - even some of the really mediocre ones. The cast has a great chemistry and all the actors play their roles with wonderful conviction. And the characters, while somewhat broadly drawn, are just plain fun. They're a lot more interesting than those poor folks on Enterprise. They had plenty of recycled material as well, but in that case, the characters were not enough to get me through the episode. On Voyager, I tune in more to see Captain Janeway and her crew more than for whatever action-insert-of-the-week they've got!

Voyager’s great cast of characters makes the show worthwhile in my opinion.

The only character I was ever interested in on Voyager during its entire 7 year run was Chakotay, and wished that more episodes were devoted to him. Chakotay was a very "Riker-esque" character.

I agree. The dynamic of the characters and their friendships and relationships...and even the relationships with their enemies like that backstabbing whore Seska made the show very interesting!

Backstabbing whore.

Arianwen , you crack me up.

I watched the show originally for Be'Lanna. She was the first character from the start that captured my attention.

I also warmed up quickly to Tuvok and enjoyed the character even more than Spock.

Paris & the EMH were great due to their wise ass remarks all the time. Plus, I think Paris was interesting because he too me was the first Trek character that was Mr. Joe Average.

Janeway way found more appeal for me when Seven joined. The scenes with them together are priceless and I found their bond to be almost as strong as Sisko & Dax.

Neelix was annoyingly lovable, plus I get giddy joy at seeing his orange eyes. :D I'll give the make up and design guys credit. No matter how you feel about the character, I think he was one of the coolest looking aliens in Trek.

It's interesting that Paris had been in prison. That edgy side of the character was toned way down as years went on in favor of his childish love of Captain Proton and other cartoons. Was there ever a Star Trek regular before that had been in prison?

I totally agree with the OP. It was the cast that made Voyager so good(even though some eps stunk!). And I always enjoyed watching Chakotay every week. And of course, Tom Paris as well. I thought that all of them got along so well even though they never did anything with each other in real life.
The one thing that got me interested in Voyager was the Maquis and how they were considered rebels in the beginning of the ep Caretaker. And that Tom Paris was in prison as well in the beginning. :) The one thing I love about Tom Paris-he watches cartoons!!!!!!

Don't forget that voyager was in unique circumstances. Technically nearly half the crew were made out of rebels, fighting against the very organization whose ship they were serving on.

Tom Paris certainly probably may not have wanted to join back to starfleet, but the circumstances certainly weren't as permitting.

Plus, given the 24th century's forgiving attitude and belief that all people can be rehabilitated, it wouldn't be surprising that an ex-con could serve in starfleet.

Yeah the characters were definetly the biggest drawing card for me with Voyager.

Janeway was the one first got my attention and the rest quickly followed.

* I loved the instant chemistry between Janeway and Chakotay
* I loved Janeway's mentor relationship with Paris.
* I loved Tom and Harry's friendship.
* I loved Neelix and the Doc ticking each other off all the time.
* I loved the friendship between the Doc and Seven.
* And I adored the mentor/friendship between Janeway and Seven.

I began looking at Voyager because of the Peter Pan type of girl by the name of Kes.
All of the characters there seemed more like real people.I liked their interaction with each other,a real family. The Walton`s in space type of show.
It wasn`t a dark moody type of show but more of a happy go lucky one.
The stories were not as good as The Second Generation, but the actors more than made up for it.

I started watching Voyager since as a Spock fan I was excited about having a Vulcan as a regular character again. Tuvie rocks. :)

Janeway also grew on me and I loved the chemistry between her and Chakotay.

i thought that Tommy was in prision because he had a piloting error and killed 4 people and lied about the event...
not really a criminal mastermind...

Isn't lying about killing 4 people bad enough?

She was a backstabbing whore. It made me so angry when she extracted Chakotay's DNA and impregnated herself. Grrr. Bitch...filthy lying cheating whore. *coff*

:D

What the hell happened to that bitch anyway? Maybe I oughta just keep watching to find out. :p

Oh, so you haven't seen the early eps. yet?

Agreed 100%. The writing was very hit n miss, but I loved all of the characters to differing degrees. I don't mind admitting that I miss them all deeply (especially J/C) and sometimes even catch myself wondering what they would/could be doing post "Endgame". Thank goodness for J/C fanfic writers! Go get your white coat :D

The characters define Voyager. All are great, even the obnoxious Neelix (in small space-rat doses)
