Very few cartoons are broadcast live. It's a terrible strain on the animators' wrists.

That six days to air thing was very cool but I feel kind of sorry for Matt and Trey. They really didn't seem to be having much fun making the episode at all.
I think some of that might be due to having cameras all over your office and letting people seeing your creative process. I get the impression they are really just private people and I think having a camera crew invading your space might have put added strain. Plus, they were still dealing with "Book of Mormon" opening and all that hoopla and stress.
