The celebration of the 50th is not good enough

For the 25th we had major events. Gene had a building named after him in a major ceremony. We had a television special. For the 30th we had a television event, a movie, two TV shows and two episode of said shows paying loving homage. Both are major events and both were covered here in the UK.

For the 50th? Nothing. No TV special. No media coverage. No comerrative books. Conventions less memorable that previously. No special TV efforts from Paramount or CBS. So basically Beyond is the only real celebration of the 50th...and even then it's only really the end Spock scene that pays direct tribute.

I contrast this to how the BBC celebrated Doctor Who's 50th in comparison, which was massive.

So, my question is, am I the only one feeling throughly short changed on the eve of the anniversary that has meant so much to so many!

Well to be fair it was a little easier for dear old Auntie Beeb to do something for DW given that it was a currently on air show.
Yes, I appreciate that, but this is the 21st Century and is Brits would be aware of any event or production CBS and/or Paramount are staging because, ya know, Internet...;)

I don't think my complaint is ill informed...and I am not sure why you would defend an underwhelming celebration in any event.

The show's been off the air for a decade. It's just not got the public image of a going concern. Yes, people would appreciate that Kirk and Spock was 50 years ago, but it's not like it's run continuously, or even has a current show on the air for the anniversary. The sad truth is that Star Trek isn't as big or popular a franchise it was for the last significant anniversaries. I hope that Discovery and other properties in the future will revive it, but I understand why companies and broadcasters aren't getting behind big anniversary events.

Heroes & Icons, the current home of all of the old Trek shows, just did a day of Trek-related programming this past Sunday. Sister network Decades will be showing much of the same programming tomorrow.

But, but, but...I thought JJ Abrams "saved" Star Trek didn't he?

That little blurb that says "+ Quote" at the bottom right of each post, between "Like" and "Reply"? Get to know it...make it your best friend.
Yes, okay Mr. Righteous. My length of membership and frequency of posting might suggest to you that it may have been several years since I read that, so instead of being a doucebag you could've just advised me of the complaint outright.

I'm sorry for my crime. SMH

So you think the the celebration has been done well...or are you just trolling?
I mean exactly what I said.

I don't know where the entitlement attitude comes from in regard to Trek fandom, but CBS and Paramount are under no obligation to produce anything for the anniversary. There is plenty of "celebration" going on, you just have to look for it. The fact that it's not on prime time TV doesn't mean it isn't happening.

But hey, if I was inclined to troll, your thread title would be an open invitation.

Enjoy what there is, and don't worry. Be happy.

Yeah, that's what I was doing. What you just did is considered Flaming if directed at any poster, never mind a mod. I'm going to give you a friendly this time...let's not do that again.

Okay, so where is this major celebration for folks like me?

"A friendly"?
Oh for heaven's sake. SMH

You're warning me because I didn't remember the rules from four years ago, made an innocent mistake and suggested your approach could be more diplomatic?

Seriously?????????? You think I started this thread to break the board rules?????

Common sense please.

I think the 30th was probably the best. (C'mon, how do you beat Trials and Tribs?)

We've got Beyond, we've got the Enterprise at the Smithsonian, and we'll have Discovery. It's just none of these are landing on September 8th.

A friendly is an informal warning. No formal warning has been issued. If you want to keep this going in public, though, that's liable to change quickly. Further comments to PM, but you'd be better off spending a couple of minutes reading those rules that I provided the link for.

I knew we weren't going to have anything on the scale of Doctor Who's 50th. To be honest, having Beyond released before the anniversary was something I feared wouldn't happen, but it did and we have a new series less than six months away. So the 50th anniversary has exceeded my expectations.
