The case against capaint Saru and ensing Tilly

They had to make Saru a bad captain so Burnham could take the chair. Though to be fair, I don't think it's unreasonable for a brand new captain to make some mistakes and I enjoyed the mentor / mentee relationship between Saru and Vance. That being said, Saru did seem a lot more competent at the beginning of the season than he did at the end. Of course now that Burnham is captain we all know she will do everything perfect the first time and will always be right about everything in the end.

I thought Tilly as XO was a ridiculous choice but she really didn't do that poorly given the situation. What they never explained was how Osyrra was able to beam through Discovery's shields so quickly. That really shouldn't have happened, particularly with the ship upgrade. It's like, Vance is a real idiot for sending his only spore drive around the galaxy by itself with seemingly no protection against being boarded?

Or that the Emerald Chain is aware of countermeasures and figured out means to counter those countermeasures. It was a Counter-Countermeasure Incident that really shook up Vance.

Vance: (thinking while Osyrra is talking): "Damn! Our tech-tech didn't beat their tech-tech. What do we do next!?"

For a while I really thought they were setting up a reveal that Osyra had a mole in Starfleet. She knew Discovery was at the nebula, knew how to beam through their shields, knew exactly where the spore drive was and how to use it, took over Discovery's computer in what seemed like minutes. Then, in the finale she knew that the Federation HQ shield thingy was disguised as something else. At one point Vance alluded to their communications being compromised but I thought it was odd not to address it directly in the plot. At one point Zareh said them taking over Discovery was because of Tilly's incompetence but clearly that wasn't true. Maybe it's being saved as a plot point for S4, but I doubt it.

I still hope it will be a plot point too. I do think there was a mole or a bug inside there. It wouldn't surprise me if the Chain had countermeasures to a lot of Starfleet's technology. They are not infallible.

I still think its Grudge...:shifty:
