The Caretaker sending ships home?

^^It's just a shame they couldn't do simply Maths virtually every time they did a shortcut they were x years closer to home.

Location of Earth within Milky Way 20 000ly from edge, so Voyager would be 10 000 years from the edge of the galaxy. Meaning a border would at most be approx 40 000ly away

Assuming 1000ly / year. (get to this later)

Shortcuts

"The Gift" 9500ly (10yrs in a dailouge)

40 000 - 9 500 = 30 500 as this was start of S4 they had already travelled 3000ly so 27 500 to border

"Hope and fear" qunatum slip stream tech 300ly (end of S4 so another 1000ly)

27 500 - 1 300 = 26 200ly to go

"Timeless" Quantum Slipstream tech 10 000ly

26 200 - 10 000 = 16 200

"Night" 2 500ly

16 200 - 2 500 = 14 700ly to border

"Dark Frontier" Borg Transwarp coil 15years (15 000ly)

14 700 - 15 000 = -300ly to border

"Voyager Conspiracy" Graviton Catipult 3 years (3 000ly) plus about another 2000ly normal travel 5000ly

-300 - 5000 = -5 300ly to border.

I don't think they can go in a straight line, since they would have had to go around the Galactic Core.

Although, it would have been nice to see a few episodes in the Galactic Core, since science tells us that the region is supposed to be densely packed with star systems. I could just imagine the amount of intelligent life they would run into with stars so close together.

Also would have been a good opportunity to fix some of the errors that ST:V introduced, with the Enterprise just showing up to the center of the Galaxy overnight.

The center of the Galaxy is supposed to be a huge Black Hole anyways, there shouldn't be any planetary systems that close to the Core.

But yeah, the whole "Lost Ship" thing just isn't any good after one season. You need more of an external plotline to keep the show going.

Heck, even the good shows that are about lost ships never went beyond 4 seasons (Farscape, LEXX, NuBSG). I guess it's just an inherently limited concept even WITH a strong external plotline.

I always had the impression that the Caretaker didn't care about the ships and crews unless they suited his needs. Ergo, he didn't bother sending them back. It was only in "The Voyager Conspiracy" that it was retconned that he sent the ships back, no?

The Galactic Core, as opposed to the Galactic Center, which is where the blackhole is theorized to exist. The region surrounding the galactic center has been shown to have an extremely high density of stars.

IRL, maybe. But in Trek's world, there's a big forcefield surrounding a planet with an angry, giant, floating blue head on it.

...But does need arks of covenant, temples and military campaigns? I'm not convinced we can make the distinction quite so quickly and easily! ;)

What our heroes consider the "center" in ST5 or "Nth Degree" or "Magicks of Megas-Tu" etc. need not literally be the very middle of the Milky Way, of course. For them, "as close as we can get to the middle" might be a sufficient definition...

Does anybody find it odd that the Caretaker left the Ocampa to live out there existence in the underground of a dead world, when he could have brought them all to live on the array? As we saw from Susperia, he didn't even need to live on it.
Why did nobody think to give the Ocampa the array and teach them how to use it?

Like I said, the dude was darker than presented. His whole reasoning for bringing ships in from all over the Galaxy was so that he could kidnap and experiment on people and then rape them if they were "compatible".

They'd have been better off making him a flat-out villain from the start.
