The Car Thread!

^ If I would buy another Ram I'll probably wait until the 2010 model line is available at the end of the year. Too many bugs need worked out IMO. I am still kicking myself for not outright purchasing my 06 when the lease expired - but I loved the 09 because it looked so good so went with it. *Kicks self again*

I only went back to them because I thought it was a fluke with the one I bought in September and didn't expect the same problem to happen again - plus the payment was horrible if I was going to spend most of the time in the shop.

I think early adopting is a just as much a problem with cars and trucks as it is with iPhones.

What I would like to know is just what is the reasoning behind the seemingly universal constant that (seemingly all) BMW drivers acting like arrogant arseholes?

I mean, I'm sure it's a great handling vehicle, but dear Gods... I've seen more bad driving skills/habits from twits driving their "Ultimate Driving Machine" than anyone else. Especially so in the DC/Northern VA area.

Cheers,

We're starting to look around at what our next car will be. Last year we went from a Corolla up to a Rav4 V6 Limited fully kitted out so that both our cars (my wife drives an RSX) were both automatic. Yes I had a manual Corolla and she has an automatic RSX. The RSX though has been a good car but we're looking at switching over since the extended warranty runs out and we want to sell it while it has value to others.

Based on what my wife wants (basically a hot hatch) it's looking like the 2010 Mazda 3 Sport, fully loaded is in our future. We were both uncomfortable leaving our comfort zone of Japanese cars though we did test drive a Mini and found it to be good in some ways, but bad in others. We took a Cooper-S out and we really didn't like the turbo lag. The Mazda though has almost the same HP with no turbos (172 for the Cooper and 168 for the Mazda). We also have considered a Golf GTI and the Volvo C30, but are a little leery. And before anyone asks or rants, no, there are no American cars on the list. I saw Ford announced bringing over some of their UK/European models here and had they done that a few years ago I might have given them a chance, but wrong place, wrong time.

Given the fact we even have our top 3 colours picked out, I imagine we're within a couple of months of switching. The RSX is good, but it is rather basic and we get more toys and even more oomph out of the 3 Sport. Mostly we want winter to be over before we buy.

I hate american cars but I do have a Saturn 2000 model. I got it from my parents, who in turn got it from my aunt. That model (The L) was before American cars turned to crap and I got my license with it. I will look forward to buying a japanese made car when I can though, hopefully in the next few years.
Just out of curiousity, why do you hate American cars?

I don't like the business practices of those companies. I think they have a lot to learn from companies like Toyota and Honda and until they do, they will always produce not very good quality cars. As for the quality, I've test driven quite a few and they are just nowhere near as good as Japanese cars. They're uncomfortable, ride rough and just lack good quality.

I think it is the psychological profile of those who buy BMWs. They want a "german" car because they want to show off that they are drivers, not using their cars for point A to B. Out of all the German brands. BMWs strikes the most as a driving car. VW is for High schoolers, Benz are for Asian mothers. Also these guys who saved up their entire life to buy a BMW think driving a BMW is the shit. But fail to realize that it is still a) just a car. B) can't afford a nice porsche, or drive a lambo.

Hence they drive like dicks b/c the car they bought is for "driving". And need to show off how great of a driver they are.

Layoffs are never good events, but I expect to see more of them rather than less in the near term.

Yeah, for sure. Actually, I'm surprised BMW didn't lay them off sooner, given the pace of the downturn. But still, it's a major job cut for the local economy.
