Just set this to record, thanks for the heads up.

Only regret is that I don't get the Biography channel in HD.

It's actually quite interesting, as these things usually are little more than interviews with the actors reminiscing or astronauts and poets and whatnot giving lectures on Star Trek's cultural blah, blah, blah.

This time it seems more like they are actually getting deep into the characters and the actors approach to them, told mostly from the perspective of writers and producers. They're delving into what makes the captains tick, which is much more captivating than what just preceded it.

In other words, it seems to be following the actual A&E "Biography" ethos, told from an almost in-universe POV at times. It's holding my attention, which these things rarely do, even though it's not presenting anything I don't already know.

It was kind of - I dunno - sophmoric?

It seemed like it had been written by a teenager trying out for a supermarket tabloid paper.

And who was that "Mr. Star Trek" guy? I never heard of him. Does he post here?

We watched the Kirk and Picard sequences, then gave up and watched Mythbusters.

I thought it was a pretty fair assessment of all the captains and touched upon the things that made each unique. I agreed with the idea that the Picard post-Wolf 359 was a different, slightly more vulnerble man than the one before it. Ditto for the analysis of Archer as someone who went into space a bit naive and idealistic and learned the hard way that the final frontier could be a mean biatch if you're not careful.

Loved David Mack's (I think) assessment of Chris Pine's Kirk as "a punk...but a punk with potential," because of his different upbringing from Shatner's Kirk...

I watched through Picard and it was fine, nothing special. I wasn't paying a whole lot of attention so for a while I thought Denise Crosby was Melissa Etheridge. They're looking rather... similar these days.

Just to clear up a misconception, this wasn't "The Captains" directed by William Shatner, this was a separate documentary.

Oh geez!

two documentaries on the same subject with the same title! come on! No wonder I was surprised when I heard the other thing only shot a couple months ago, the one with William Shatner directing.

Ha, no worries, I was confused too. I missed this one (I'm teaching English in Korea at the moment), I'd like to find a torrent of it. Any new Trek content is great!

Will this be shown again anytime? I missed it :(

I'm impressed and elated they included Sisko!
