So, I've got the ST:XI calendar which I ordered on Ebay as I could not find it in Australia. It is hanging above my computer and January is Pine's Kirk aiming a phaser at a Romulan. We don't see the Romulan of course because just like every single TOS calendar for decades the whole thing consists only of the characters faces. No scenery, no landscapes, no action scenes, no group scenes except for one month that contains two faces.

This has pissed me off with TOS calendars for years. Often they aren't even some great expression you remember from the show just random grabs of their up close faces.

Of course I love my ST:XI calendar because I love these characters and I will take what I can get. The background of the calendar is gorgeous and there is a nice montage of the movie posters in the middle. But I was kind of shocked that the same, sometimes blurry, face only choices were made for the photos. Could we not have had months showing:

Amanda staring out over the Vulcan landscape with the drill tearing her planet apart..

Prime Spock and Kirk in the ice cave.. or Prime Spock and NuSpock in the hangar..

Sulu in action on the drill, slashing it up with a Romulan..

Fleeing cadets with the drill smashing into S.F...

Better Ship Pr0n!! (there is one photo of the ship)

Kirk with the apple during the Kobayashi Maru sequence..

So many great opportunities. I wonder who puts these things together. I stopped buying TOS calendars years ago because the photos were so dull (and often blurry). I hope if there is a ST:XI calendar next year, which is probably unlikely, that they get a little creative.

I also hope February lasts a looooooooooong time..

looked for 2010 ST calendars on ebay and calendars.com in oct and couldn't find any - thanks for the heads-up!

I have that calendar hanging in my kitchen by a phone. My brother gave it to me for Christmas. I agree with every word you posted, teacake! There really is no excuse for the lack of quality.

Well.... GUESS WHAT??

After posting my whine on the TOS calendars someone gave me one as a gift. It is slightly better looking as far as the background etc.. goes but the pics are same silly close ups of faces. BUT BUT BUT.. there is this awesome synchronicity going on between the ST:XI and the TOS calendars for 2010, at least for the first 3 months.

I have them hanging up right next to each other (well there is a small ST:XI poster between them).

January has Kirk, both calendars he is looking off to the right at the same angle. I swear there is quite a resemblance.

February had Spock! I have the ST:XI calendar on the right and the TOS calendar on the left and the Spocks are looking at each other. They look like.. a younger and older version of Spock. It is awesome.

March.. March is McCoy! This is not quite as uncanny as the TOS pic is from the waist up and the ST:XI pic is a closeup but it's still a real pleasure to compare them.

Those are the only months of synchronicity. But it has inspired me to mix and match after 2010 regardless of dates, to see the ST:XI and TOS crew side by side.
