The Cage

"The Cage"

Does anyone remember the character that always stood by the Turbolift, making sure the doors open and close when crewmembers approach, which was his sole job?

I wonder if he ever got tired standing there, or if he would get a break from the job.

Given the uniform color, he might be a paramedic waiting for Pike to collapse or Spock to stumble. After all, at the time, half the bridge crew is injured and all supposedly fatigued.

He might be on official (but not really needed) guard duty. Or perhaps, which is most likely, he's a relief crewman on standby in case he needs to take someone else's station when they leave for a moment.

I recall in one of the TOS novels, Spock referred to him as deceased. No idea which novel.

Fairly vague memory, but in the novel, Spock is asked if he remembers the crewman who always stood by the lift door during that timeframe? Spock remembers his name, and states that he was killed during such and such mission. Someone from the Lit Forum would surely know which novel.

EDIT: Googling "The Cage crewman by turbolift" brought me to Memory Alpha and this article, where he is listed as Bridge Guard #1.
