The Cage - Remastered

The answer is.......

Since quitting HD DVD and rejoining the Blu-ray camp Paramount/CBS hasn't announced or released ANYTHING in Blu-ray.

Universal who also quit HD DVD in March just announced today their first batch of titles in Blu-ray format.

Paramount/CBS certainly will release TOS in Blu-ray at some point, but they have tons of catching up to do in releasing recent theatrical movies and other high-profile pictures.

It seems logical that they might release the TOS seasons in blu-ray in the run-up to the premeire of Trek 11 next spring. So start saving your money now if you want them, because they'll likely cost a lot!!

Actually, I beleive Paramount did announce they'd be doing the Star Trek feature films in Blu-Ray format; but I don't think they're waiting due to any marketing tie ins. Paramount was expecting to be HD-DVD only for quite some time, so when Toshiba called it quits - Paramount/CBS was left having to start doing Blu-Ray from scratch; and that means draing up new contracts and finding a number of Blu-Ray disc production facilities that Paramount feels can handle Paramounts business effectively and efficiently, etc.

Paramount and the other HD-DVD studios were not expecting Toshiba to fold so fast (Personally, I'm a happy camper as I decided to go Blu-Ray when I took the HDTV plunge); but it's going to take all these studios time to find facilities, draw up contracts, an get their Blu-Ray DVD production going.

Personally, I would be surprised if we don't see TOS available in Blu-Ray by Christmas of this year. Time will tell.

I watched The Cage years ago, and liked The Menagerie. I'm guessing there will be carry-over TOS-R stuff from the earlier Menagerie airing, I wonder if the stations will not butcher too much, or if the episode will be significantly unique vs. The Menagerie...

Unfortunately, we will won't know until the DVD's are released. As of today, the remastered airing of "The Cage" has been dropped from the schedule. This week's showing of "Mudd's Woman" has been moved to next week and a repeat of the remastered "Conscience of the King" is scheduled for this weekend.

Cut or uncut, I really wanted to see what they had done for "The Cage" so I am not happy that the episode has been dumped. :klingon:

What a disappointment! If they reschedule, maybe they can find a way to broadcast the whole 90 minutes. Does anyone know if The Cage Remastered will be released on high def as a single DVD or as part of a set?

Hmm, I guess they thought that the cuts couldn't do the ep justice.

Haha would be ironic if the editors themselves realized that after they hacked up The Cage it was too much damage.

I saw "The Menagerie"-RM theatrical presentation last year & they showed a featurette before on how some of the effects were done (which, I believe, is also in the 1st season HD-DVD package), & they specifically showed how they redid the opening shot of closing in on the bridge dome, with the dome slowly turning transparent & the entire bridge is digitally rendered until it blends in with the original footage. An amazing shot!! It is seen in the "Menagerie"-RM, but on the "transmission screen" in court, so it was too small to be fully appreciated. Looking forward to the entire episode, which I'm sure will be included in the BluRay compilation, which I'm betting will be released as the entire 3-season package, maybe next summer when the new movie comes out (I hope, I hope)!!!

Thanks for the details, zopman! Now I'm more interested in seeing it. At least they released The Menagerie.

It seems that The Cage will not air until the the third TOS-R syndication season.

Third? I thought they were only doing two.

I mean, they'll cover all three seasons of the show, of course (and release them on DVD and Blu-Ray in those same seasons), but the syndicated broadcasts of TOS-R are organized into two seasons, aren't they?

According to trekmovie.com there will be a third season of TOS-R syndication in 2008/2009 with The Cage being the only new episode.

If The Cage is shown at the beginning of the season maybe they can even manage to show an uncut version in a 90 minute time slot.

One more new episode than was available previously in syndication. A small, but noticeable, improvement.

I bet that eventually it comes out in Blu-Ray. There is no reason they would not want to release it in this format at some time.

When I think of "The Cage" enhanced I envision some extra flyby shots of the Enterprise added. There are very few shots of "The Cage" era E in it, which is too bad.

Who knows. I myself never heard an explanation why. So far I haven't seen or read anything about the Blu-Ray issue.

Paramount was one of the HD-DVD holdouts, and now that the war is over they have announced other Blu-ray titles. With all the work they have done to remaster seasons one and two and the promise to remaster season 3 , I would be surprised if a Blu-ray release was not announced within this year. It's guaranteed $ales. I only hope that they are generous with extras and options.
