The British Christmas Special (2008 edition!)

So, of course I'm like two weeks late, but I just sat down and watched several Christmas themed episodes.

I always found the idea of the Christmas special to be slightly strange, mainly because in America everything except the news shuts down and they do their Christmas episodes in October or November... but given that I was bored out of my mind between Christmas and New Years (no more It's a Wonderful Life or Christmas Carrol, PLEASE), I'd love it if the tradition was brought over here.

Anyway, I was pleasantly surprised to see that there was a Christmas episode of The Royle Family and it just brought back so many fond memories. I almost teared up when I saw the Christmas ornament that they opened the show with.

I wasn't even here much on Christmas, so maybe this has been discussed to death, but did anyone else watch anything interesting during the holidays?

wallace and gromit: a matter of loaf and death and Doctor Who were my 2 biggies. other than that, it was the Strictly xmas spesh and the Peter Serafinowicz Show Xmas Special.

Ditto. Although the Royle Family special was a nice and semi-unexpected surprise too.

I don't know, Dave and Denise seemed much more caricatures than I remembered during the series, but maybe I'm just misremembering. Have to wonder why Antony wasn't in it either.
I did really enjoy Wallace & Gromit though.

It was weird that Antony wasn't in it... especially since they used the old credits sequence and there was just this creepy blank space where the actor's name should have appeared.

I just watched the My Family special and I'm finding it harder and harder to have a reason to like the show... familiarity maybe? It was one of the first "new" British comedies that I watched and I still find the concept of a British sitcom copying American production methods interesting.

I'll have to find this Wallace and Gromit special.
