The bridge design you prefer

First of all, I think this belongs in this section, if not, this can be moved, right? :)

This is a simple question which popped into my head recently and I want to ask, which bridge designs you Trekkers prefer? I was about to ask only, which Enterprise-D bridge you prefer (Series vs. Generations) but I thought expanding the question would be a good idea :)

As for me, I am between the Ent-D bridges, other's simple and other is more filled, if you understand what I mean. Other designs I prefer is the Intrepid class (Voyager), Defiant and Excelsior bridges.

The original series bridge, which will always have a strange, fascinating sort of alien-ness that the later more simply functional looking bridges can't match. Next Gen the series and "Generations" had the same bridge set, except that they turned down the lights in the film. I remember they said when working on the film that they were in the process of adding a lot more detail to the series bridge, because more detail would show in a film. They must have somehow failed at this or got sick of it, and just decided to lower the light level. Maybe you meant to compare the Ent-D and Ent-E from First Contact.

I think it’s just the opposite — the original series bridge looks practical and functional. I didn’t mind the minor changes from the pilot version that were made for series production — adding touches of red, eliminating the gooseneck viewers, making the overhead perimeter viewscreens all the same size to facilitate rear slide projection (although that effect was used much less frequently than I would like to have seen).

Later versions looked too self-consciously “designed,” especially the godawful Abramsprise bridge.
 
My favorite bridge is the Enterprise-D bridge from the TV series. I've always liked it, spacious but not too big.

Well, the practicalities were also interesting. I liked especially the station panels which curved around on the console, to make it easier for the operator. Still, especially for me as a kid at the time, that bridge design was startling. We're used to Star Trek sorts of bridges today; even most non-viewers could identify a Star Trek bridge, if they saw one. Fans now look at the original in the context of all those other later bridges, which they probably grew up with.

I think that even when compared to later Trek bridges though (not just what came before, or aircraft carrier bridges, or whatever), that TOS bridge is a bit startling. I can't put my finger on it.

You're right, it doesn't have that self-consciously "designed" look. It doesn't seem to be out to impress, it just is what it is, but what it is is remarkable-looking. Many later bridges aimed at filling the screen with more electronics that would be more easily recognizable as such to the present-day viewer, maybe the viewer of sci-fi-ish films these days. I think these might date faster than the first bridge will. I think the Ent-E bridge, for example, is deadly dull. The Ent-D bridge had a bit of that "otherness" to it, because of that design element of that big, curvy wooden-looking thingie. It worked because of it-- nothing much going on in that set otherwise.
 
Defiant by far had the best and most practical bridge of them all.

I have to agree. It along with the NX-01 bridge are the most functional and set up as command centres.

My least favored design is the show 1701-D. It was too much like a lounge.

No kidding on that buddy, I'm surprised they didn't have Troi serving cocktails halfway through season one and just install a hot tub in the middle of the floor :lol:

Nope, I was talking about the Ent-D bridges. The series version was "simplier" due to lack of the starboard and port consoles, stairs (higher command centre) etc. :)
