The borg voice in FC

LiChiu

Commander
Red Shirt
Is it just me or is that voice scary? I was younger when I first saw first contact and the borg voice at the beginning was scary to me. It still spooks me.
But I love to hear it. I wish I could make my phone answering service sound like it. :p

Anyone know how they make the Borg voice? It's too bad there isn't a program online where you can type the words you want Borgified and it comes out as a wav or something.

Im sure it was done using a sound editing program where they just added a ceretain interference pattern to the voice waveform.

The details escape me. Maybe one of us with some audio engineering experience could be more help, possibly even take a recording of your voice and add te effect to it.

I think it's a safe bet to say they are using voices from many different actors, then apply some filter. It makes sense since the Collective is a hive mind.

At one time, I even thought I was hearing the entire regular cast

I'm sure they just gather 100 people in one room and have them recite the lines. These are all people they get off the street and are not excited to be there, therefore they sound unemotional. I say this because when I'm in church and we start saying the creed (or something else), it sounds just like the Borg.

:guffaw:

That's the funniest thing I've read all week. Thanks!

No problem, glad I could be of help!

Multiple voice pitch shifter/doubler. The voices are tuned higher and lower relative to the pitch of the original voice and then the result is likely put into another pitch shift/doubler. You can buy such multi-effects processors at any music store and create your own collective.

Me = Wants.

I work in radio...this tiny sound file is just my own voice one time...then altered to sound like a chorus of 30, then adding distortion residue.

It's not exact, but for goofing around for 10 or 15 minutes, it's not too bad. :)

That would be so much fun to play with.

"We are the Borg. We will acquire a quarter pounder meal. We do not desire onions. We will assimilate a diet Coke."

Teenage girl: Would you like to biggie size that?

"We do not. But could we add two cherry pies for a dollar?"

What's interesting to do is to go back to Q Who and the Borg's voice then. We've gotten so used to a particular sound from them, and the same speech, that in Q Who it sounds very weird.

You sounded like you were in a rush. Speak a little slower, a little more authoritative, and it's real close. All you need is the electronic background "chatter".

That is so creepy sounding. :borg:

Seemingly one person, Jeff Coopwood, was used for the main voice in the film. I just found this on Wikipedia: Link

Heh. No thanks. But the mind boggles at what simple software can do these days compared to all the high-end hardware and such that was needed when the Borg were first introduced.
