The Borg Infant in "Collective" Episode

mysticgeek

Lieutenant
Red Shirt
This is the episode in Season 6 where Voyager finds the damaged children drones. Seven transported a Borg infant to Voyager, and the doctor was able to save it.

What the hell ever happened to that infant? It wasn't sent back, there is no reference about it...

What am I missing here? Bad writing?

There are two competing theories.

1)

It's kept in the same drawer as the dead baby version of Naomi Wildman from the Deadlock episode, the shrivelled up dead human version of B'Elanna from Faces, crewman Darwin etc etc

2)

Tom: Neelix, this Tortellini is delicious; what did you make it with?.
Neelix: That would be telling.

There was to have been a scene where the baby was mentioned to have accompanied the Borg children going down to the planet, but they were pressed for time and realised, because no storylines had come up around the baby, that most of the audience had forgotten all about it.

One of the Bees, at a convention, said that the child was returned to it's parents inbetween episodes.

Which is lazy and careless writing.

I heard something similar to this except what I heard was that it had been returned to its homeworld which is basically the same thing.

Yes...they dropped the ball on this one although I'm not all that bothered in this instance. I probably would have dismissed it as one of those unnecessary plot points that sucked up screen time.

But did we want an entire episode devoted to returning the child to someone familiar even though transwarp speed is THOUSANDS of times faster than regular warp, or did we want three lines of dialogue to explain where the child had been unloaded?

Imperfection

WYSANTI: Thank you again for taking care of them, Captain. We're very grateful.
JANEWAY: We're just glad that Rebi and Azan will have a chance to grow up with their own people, and that you've been kind enough to let Mezoti AND THE BABY join them.
MEZOTI: You can still come with us.
ICHEB: And you can still stay on Voyager.
MEZOTI: Adapting to your absence will be difficult.
ICHEB: I'll miss you, too.
SEVEN: It's time.

They would probably have given the baby a name by that time or called it by its Borg designation. One of one....otherwise known as Onesie.

Could you take the baby too. Our chief moral officer has a bit of a dodgy history with kids so we think it's probably for the best. We've named him Onesie
WYSANTI: No problem. Every society has its paedo's. What can you do?
JANEWAY:I know, right.
