The borg are the end-stage socialists.
<knock knock> Excuse us, we'd like to talk to you about perfection. Would you like a pamphlet? It'd be interesting if they eventually took such an approach, and there were annoying Borg drones preaching about the benefits of the collective on street corners all over the populated galaxy. You don't even have to eat, just get plugged into a socket, hell yeah!
As a socialist, I have to protest this notion. The borg are the end-stage socialists.
The borg are the end-stage socialists.
Socialism is not the same as communism or totalitarianism or other -isms. Bernie (for example) is hardly a totalitarian. and he believes in democracy as much as you or me. I'm not a Bernie supporter, but nor am I a demonizer.Technically I guess you can argue it’s an extreme version of socialism.
But invoking totalitarian versions of any philosophy as a way to connect modest social reforms to a spectrum that inherently slides to the extreme is absurd.
It is not end stage socialism because socialism is not a progression of stages. Any form of it that has been proposed in the US is mutually exclusive with totalitarian forms, and are not early stages of a progression towards them.
I like the idea of a voluntary collective. I guess it’d be more like a cult.

This is a bizarre thread.
Truer words have never been spoken. This is a bizarre thread.
. But to me a 21st century human they sound quite appealing. Yes, you lose your autonomy and individuality. But humans have societies where they retained their individuality and stripped of everything else. What good is it to be individual if you have no food or shelter? What good is it to be individual if you have your right abridged and your dignity trampled on? There's something noble about the Borg despite their methods.
Within their borders they have peace and tranquility as they quietly work towards a perfection. The collective consciousness in some ways reminds me of the changeling great link. Maybe the ultimate destiny of all beings are not as individuals, at least not full time, but as part of a greater joyous whole. The thing if find most unsound about the Bork was shown in unimatrix zero when they did attmempt to crush what could have been their greatest strength, allowing borg go enjoy a kind of idyllic paradise when not serving the greater entirety. There’s nothing “noble” about The Borg.
Sorry, this is all that made me think of.Maybe the ultimate destiny of all beings are not as individuals, at least not full time, but as part of a greater joyous whole.
