The Better Actor/actress #5

I am not going to declare a winner in the Shatner vs Stewart contest. That one deserves another day of voting. Again, I don't really care for polls because people can just vote, and thats cool. But I want people to state their vote, and then say why. Who really wins is really not important, because Shatner/Stewart are both so good. But reading how we come to feel a certain way is far more interesting I think...

Okay...Battle Number five...and it is another doozy....you can only use STAR TREK as a qualifier.....

KATE MULGREW (voyager) vs AVERY BROOKS (ds9)

This is our first battle of the sexes. And, yes, it is a doozy.

Again, there is no need to really introduce them. But we all know the 'unstated' rivalry between DS9 and Voyager fans. Will be interesting to see who wins this epic battle of the captains #2...

So...who wins? Avery Brooks (sisko) vs Mulgrew (janeway). Who, based on their star trek tenure, had the better acting ability?

Robert

Kate Mulgrew. Brooks seemed to be a little too over-the-top for me from time to time (though I liked that about William Shatner - and voted for him in another battle).

Hmmm...I didn't watch nearly as much Voyager as i have DS9(not for reasons that I didn't like it, just didn't have the time....)

Still with what I have seen, I would say Avery Brooks. I think he passion and convictions were a bit better. Although after saying that, sometimes I do think he was a bit too much at times.

I would probably have to go with Brooks on this one. Even though Brooks was over the top most of time I could never really get into Janeway. I think it was her delivery and facial expression that got to me.

Brooks as that same Staccado speaking pattern that Shatner uses at time. It takes time to get use to. But I really got into Sisko as he made the character more him, and less like Picard. I wish they would have brought him back in a MINISERIES!!! Jake has lost both his parents, and Ben was really close with his son. I liked that aspect of Sisko a lot.

I like Janeway. I blame the writing for most of her character's problems. But I go with Brooks, overall..

That's what I didn't like. I think it was overdone, and too dramatic. I have honestly never seen anybody act like that in real life so I don't get it.

I agree with that as well.

I did too! Hawk was sheer understated menace, and a good pal.

It's a toss up! I think both characters were portrayed in a compelling way. For all Patrick Stewart's great ability, (and he was better than either as an actor,) both of these characters were more compelling on a personal level.

Avery Brooks. Sure he did a lot of shouting and scenery chewing, but he did it very well. "I can live with it.", is one of my favorite lines in all of Star Trek.
I like Kate Mulgrew, but she used Supreme Queen Bitch Goddess Janeway too many times during Voyager's journey home. I wanted to smack her around by the time Admiral Janeway showed up in Endgame.
