Leonard Nimoy vs Brent Spiner

Which of these two great actors did the better job while part of the STAR TREK universe.

That doesn't seem like an even fight. On one side you have a very emotional southern doctor, and on the other side an unemotional android.

I would have to say Leonard strictly because he was able to show more emotion with his lines and body language. I do like the way Spiner portrayed Data in the later seasons of TNG and the movies, but he was still bottlenecked by the emotion part.

So I vote Leonard.

Okay then, Nimoy vs. Spiner.

I'd have to say Nimoy. He developed a good relationship (on screen) with Shatner and they flowed well together and fed off each other. Brent really didn't develop that kind of relationship on screen with anybody IMO.

I think Nimoy brought more to his role than Spiner did his.

Brent Spiner brought a lot to his role as Data. He's undoubtably TNG's most wonderfully tragic figure. Also, Spiner showed a lot of depth in a lot of eras.

However, I will have to choose Nimoy as well - The guy practically invented the Vulcans as a race!

I don't think I can choose on this one. They're both pretty equel in terms of the characters they were potraying. I also think they were both pretty neck and neck outside of Trek as well, in both acting and (sigh) singing. However if I were to make a judgement strictly on which actor I personally like better, I would rule in favor of Nimoy. On a side note, is there some kind of award for most threads started by a single poster in a single week that I'm unaware of?
Anyway, I'm more or less kidding around; Keep it up Scorpio, you do make things interesting. :thumbsup:

Another one for Nimoy. While each of them defined their respective characters well, I think Nimoy did a far better job of expressing the broad range of emotions and other various aspects of Spock than Spiner did with Data.

Got to agree there. I felt both Nimoy and Spiner gave two of the most consistently strong performances on the franchise. It'd be a pretty tight race in my mind. Course, if you put a gun to my temple and started threatening me with my invaluable brain splattered over the carpet, I might go with Nimoy.
