The Best Star Trek Novels No One Mentions?

Kobayashi Maru by J. Ecklar shouldn´t be forgotten.
What was that title again? I seem to have forgotten.

It told the stories of Kirk's, Sulu's, Chekov's, and Scotty's experiences at Command School, including multiple encounters with the Kobyashi Maru Scenario. (Kirk's rationale for cheating is excellent - . I also enjoyed Sulu's and Chekov's stories, the latter for what it illustrates about Kirk.

Does the book give any indication for why Scotty is taking the test? I always assumed it was only for command-track people.

It does - I can't remember it because I've only read it once (for reasons I also can't remember now I really didn't like it so I avoid it in my periodic re-reads).

If I remember right Scotty was originally on command track and was transferred to Engineering partially based on his solution to the test. But its been a good 10 years since I read it last.
