The Best PS2 Games

So, I got myself a PS2 recently, since the price has come down and you can get one for about $100 now. I got it primarily to play DDR, which I do pretty regularly, but I want to get myself some other good titles for it. So far, I have:

* Final Fantasy X
* Final Fantasy XII
* X-Men Legends
* Grand Theft Auto: Vice City
* Warriors of Might & Magic

What are some "must have" PS2 games? I'm mostly into RPGs, strategy games, stuff like that. I also dig a good FPS.

If you like RPGs, you can't go wrong with the Xenosaga. You can probably can find all three parts for under under $20 (I've seen part one for as low as $3.) The gaming aspects are not always on par, but the story is incredible ... at least if you like high-concept science fiction. The music is also very excellent.

For other RPGs he Suikoden games are also very good, except they're harder to find and can get really expensive. (At this point, they cost more than the PS2 itself.)

While not an FPS, Ace Combat 5 is a great sim-shooter. It's loads of fun even if you're not into aircraft, and if you are, it's orgasmic. It's easy to get into and the story is very engaging. It's also not nearly as cheap/difficult as the other Ace Combat games.

Psychonauts
Okami
Disgaea
Beyond Good and Evil
Gregory Horror Show
Ico
Shadow of the Colossus

Not sure if all those fit what you're looking for, but they're all excellent.

Beyond Good and Evil
Psychonauts
GTA: San Andreas
Beyond Good and Evil
MGS2: Sons of Liberty
MGS3: Subsistence
Beyond Good and Evil
Ico
Shadow of the Colossus
Resident Evil 4
Beyond Good and Evil
;)

In preference order :p

1-Persona 4
2-Persona 3
3-Final Fantasy X
4-Xenosaga III
5-Xenosaga I
6-Metal Gear Solid 3

There are so many on the PS2 that it's hard to list them all. Just what's been said above is barely a start.

I liked the Splinter Cell games, Killzone, Silent Hill sequels, Onimusha and more I can't think of.

That's a lot, everyone! I got Ace Combat 5 and Xenosaga I today. I'm sure I'll be grabbing more as time goes on. Keep the suggestions comin'.

Devil May Cry
Devil May Cry 3
All the Ratchet and Clanks
God of War 1 & 2
Star Ocean Till The End of Time
Resident Evil 4

Mercenaries

Love that game. 2 was a horrible disappointment though.

Nice to see someone still living in the PS2 world. PS3 is still probably fairly far off for me.

I can't recommend much for you, as my gaming tastes are quite a bit different than the average gamer. Games I have always read about how great they were were too hard for me, like Shadow of the Collosus and God of War. I don't think I ever got more than an hour or so into those before I gave up (sad I know). I recently pulled out Kingdom Hearts to try again, but I hate the controls so much I just couldn't do it (why couldn't they make the right joystick control the camera? Too logical?).

My favorite PS2 games (minus sports games, which I'm quite fond of, but won't waste your time making you read them all):

Mercenaries - a departure for me, but the controls are very manageable and it's a ton of fun to me.

Stuntman - I love driving games for the most part, and this one is quite unique and fun.

Both History Channel: Civil War games - Probably not super popular, but my fascination with the Civil War make these fun for me. I play them over and over again.

The Warriors - I love the movie, and I thought the game was quite well done. Rockstar rarely lets me down.

Star Trek: Conquest - The only Trek PS2 game that I really find enjoyable. Not a whole lot to it, but it's one I enjoy playing quite often.

Bully - One of my all-time favorite games. Another gem by Rockstar.

Burnout Revenge - I enjoy the Burnout series, and this is my favorite. Another driving game with a bit of originality to it.

Test Drive: Eve of Destruction (aka "Redneck Racing") - I love the wacky events (figure 8 tracks, trailer races, demolition derby etc.). I find the career mode a blast to play.

Flatout 2 (aka "Sling the Dude") - Playing the mini games with a friend once they're unlocked is funner than the main part of the game to me. Slinging the driver through the windshield at bowling pins or at a dartboard just never gets old to me.

Red Dead Revolver - Another favorite of mine. I hate that Red Dead Redemption did not come out on PS2. I guess I'll just have to wait, but that'll be one of the first games I buy with the PS3!

Heroes of the Pacific - I think this has some of the coolest graphics I've seen on PS2. My favorite flying game of all-time. Really cool how you can watch the replay of each mission, no matter how long. It's a huge game too. I think I've yet to make it all the way through.

GTA: Vice City - Nothing unique about this pick.

Snoopy vs. the Red Baron: I only picked this one up because I've been such a huge Peanuts fan since I was a little kid. I assumed it would be a shitty kid's game, but I just wanted to have it. It actually turned out to be quite challenging, and quite fun.

Hope that list didn't bore you silly. I know it's not your preferred genres for the most part, but was different from most of what everyone else was listing, so I went ahead and threw it out there. ;)
