The Best of Roger Delgado as the Master

I am a huge fan of the Master character, especially in his original onscreen incarnation as played by Roger Delgado.

I am looking forward to purchasing the newly-released (well, tomorrow) DVD of the classic Jon Pertwee serial, The Daemons.

It has been some years since I watched the now largely unavailable VHS edition of the story but what I remmeber makes me want the DVD all the more.

What other favorite serials and moments in the stories themselves featuring Delgado's Master do the masses usually go for?

The Sea Devils. The scene where hes intently watching a childrens tv show, not realizing they're puppets. Still a scientist and time Lord at heart.

And of course the sword duel with Three shortly afterwards.



Also have a soft spot for Colony in Space. Where he suddenly just turns up in the middle of the episode without warning.
 
The Pertwee-Delgado duel in The Sea Devils is smashing good TV. Especially the moment he throws the knife at the Doctor and the credits roll and you don't get to see if it hits the Doctor until the next episode.

See, I always thought he was joking about that. He looks visibly disappointed in the Colonel's literal mindedness. There was a similar scene for John Simms' Master, commenting on the Teletubbies in 'The Sound Of Drums'.

And yes, the sword fight in 'The Sea Devils' is a highlight. It's scenes like this that make the Third Doctor era so memorable.
 
The Mind Of Evil and The Sea Devils are the best - and he has some great moments in Frontier In Space

You're right, the intention of that scene is that he is joking and frustrated that Trenchard doesn't get it.
 
Frontier in Space. love the bit where Jo stops him from hypnotising her and he so calmly asks her what she's doing and then accepts she's got the better of him and doesn't resort to physical attacks.
 
The Master was not quite so viscious in this incarnation, or at least held it in better than later regenerations. Delgado's Master, it could be said, was a gentleman's opponent to the Pertwee Doctor. The way he did things without usually resorting to sheer violence was legendary.
 
I know many don't like it, but, I've always really liked The Time Monster. Frontier in Space is also, of course awesome as well
 
The Time Monster is a classic UNIT/Master serial and one I think often overlooked by fandom. Which is unfortunate, as it does have a lot to offer.
 
I like Time Monster too! Delgado excels at playing the civil, even charming, but sinister villian. He's not over the top but there's no doubt that he's dangerous. He's more subtle than Ainley's portrayal. Roger Delgado is my favorite Master to date.

I like to think otherwise, just because it makes the Master just a bit sympathetic. He is an alien after all.
Its a bit like Eleven not quite knowing how kissing and money work. :)
 
Sea Devils, Frontier in Space and Claws of Axos are probably my favorites for Master action.
-but Delgado is always great, there are no bad ones.
