Baldwin always been Ryan in my mind when I was reading the books. So, he's my first choice. Ford's Ryan was good, but never fitted. He's a terrific actor, yes, but he's not Jack Ryan. And for Affleck's Ryan, I like him. He did a good job to fit in the role. Too bad he might not take another shot for Ryan...

Every time someone says Jack Ryan I think of Alec Baldwin in the role. It was just so tight a story.

I'd have to go with Baldwin. He was the first, he was good and I was sorry he didn't continue the roll. Ford just got the part because of his star status, and though I really do like him, he was just going through his "Don't you hurt my family you terrorist bastards!!" routine. Afleck? I don't think I saw that one.

Baldwin was the best.

And I'm still not following A beaker full of death's argument...

they're a series in the same way James Bond is a series or the Star Trek movies or Spider-Man or Mission: Impossible...

Patriot Games was the same damn script that Alec Baldwin turned down (probably a money play where he lost, since they simply replaced him with the biggest movie star in the world at the time; though he claims it was to do Streetcar). So if Baldwin had returned, would you then call it a series? Does James Earl Jones being in the first three movies count?

Of the four movies, the only one that doesn't fit in is Sum when they deaged the main character.

Baldwin, he's how I've always pictured Ryan when reading the books. It doesn't hurt that HFRO is the only decent film in the series either. ;)
