The "best EVER images in Trek" thread

Again, apologies if this been done. Watching FC other night, this struck me as one of the most striking images in Trek; not simply as a cinematic image, but for what it encapsulates about Trek. I'd love others' contributions, even if just descriptions. Obvious examples I can think of: Kirk's 'KHAAAAN' in TWOK; lots in TOS (Battlefield, Little Girls). Are there equally striking emblematic images in TNG, VOY, DS9 and ENT? Ideally, no shots of spaceships or lame jokes (both predicatable)...

Cool thread idea.

One image that sticks out for me, especially because it was done on a TV show, is the image of the Cardassian informant's shadow-obscured face in "Improbable Cause." First, it clearly evokes images of Deep Throat from All the President's Men. But the scene itself single-handedly expanded the canvas of the Trek universe. No longer was it about a single ship, or a single space station, or a single planet, but it was about how all of these empires and governments were involved in an interwoven tapestry. That scene just felt so epic to me, made the entire Trek universe feel so real, so complicated, so interesting.
I also like how the Informant's little nods weren't quite matched to what he was actually saying. It throws the viewer off a bit. Plus his voice was awesome!

One scene that I always found to be quite powerful is in DS9. When Nog's leg is injured and Quark is talking to him about humans and a few home truths about taking away their comforts and we're not such nice people to be around. Makes you think of all the times that the humans look down their noses at Ferengi's and their capitalist ways, and what other species observations of us are.

I think one of the most powerful scenes in Trek is the reveal of the Enterprise in Spacedock from TMP. It's a moment of wonder and grandeur that are emblematic for Star Trek. The images are stunningly beautiful and very well served by the musical score. I also enjoyed the look of sheer awe on Kirk's face as he looks up at the ship.

lurok that is absolutely fantastic. Certainly an image that encapsulates one of the great Trek themes.

Scenes are easy to think of, it's images that we need here. A single, powerful Trek image. Not that I am contributing one at this point as I have to go away and think about it but I shall return!

I still remember how I felt in the theater during that scene, my heat still races thinking about it some 30 odd years later. And as KingDaniel mentioned, the homage to that scene in Trek 2009, when Kirk and McCoy see the Enterprise in space for the first time, made my heart beat almost as fast. The images and the music just came together perfectly in both cases to drive home why I love Trek.

What a great thread :techman:

I have to agree that very scene was very poignant and expressed so much with so little. It was definitely one of the very few scenes in FC that really spoke loudly at me. It made that human connection.

Great thread suggestion, I have a couple that I will link too:

In fact, there's a lot of good shots in Insurrection. Great filming location.

- I loved the way they "flew" over Romulas

Everytime I see this location used in Star Trek or elsewhere it cheers me up. I visited the park last year so love it even more now!

wow they are big pictures, sorry!
That just means we get to enjoy them more! A couple thoughts about your pictures:

Picture 1
When do they get on their horses and ride off into the sunset?

Picture 2
Seems kind of funny to have moats in a world full of starships, shuttles, and transporters :)

One of my favorite images is from the season 5 finale of DS9. Dukat is on the bridge of a Dominion battlecruiser and when Damar says the entire fleet has DS9 within weapons range, Dukat nods his head and with much satisfaction says, "Then by all means... fire." He says it as if he's giving permission rather than an order, like the pleasure is to be shared. But the actual image that sticks in my mind is how Dukat is essentially biting his lower lip in anticipation of utterly thwomping our heroes. That near-bite seals it for me how evil and despicable he is, and shows just what our heroes were up against. For all the good that Trek's brought us, there's a villain out there willing to match that, so our heroes must stay ever-vigilant.
