The Battle for Betazed & Immortal Coil

What are the similarities between the two?

Data/Robert Langdon's names being written at the site of a murder...it's abit of a leap I admit...

"A bit?" There have probably been dozens of books and films with that trope in them. Also, a single similiarity doesn't count for anything. Pick any two novels at random and you can probably find at least one common plot point.

Again, to be fair, my problem with Immortal Coil is not that plot point, but rather that the book is (in my opinion) nothing more than a guided tour through every TOS and TNG episode that featured an AI of some sort. It's pretty much the Deep Throat of Continuity Porn.

^I agree the continuity porn is too strong; I would've been happier if at least some of the AIs had been ones we hadn't seen before. But to me, the story is so compelling otherwise that it still comes out strongly in the plus column.

I read those two books in high school, but I don't really remember either one of them. I did like them at the time, though.

"The Battle of Betazed" has a particular place in my heart as the first Star Trek book I ever read, when I had just turned 12.

Boy, do I feel old now.

Me, too. I think Battle of Betazed is the first Trek book I've read in 12 years. Anyway, I really enjoyed it. Polished it off in a couple of commutes. Enjoyed the scenario and the characters. At first I was sceptical that Deanna would hold up to the role on the front cover but she did a good job. Enjoyed Lwaxana in this one, too.
