the BASEBALL life...

I felt low yesterday. I needed something to pick me up. So, sometimes, I will break out a TREK episode for inspiration. I plucked out my EMISSARY DVD and fast-foward to Sisko's explanation of Baseball and Life....great stuff there. And very well written...Bravo Avery. You delivered it perfectly

I think I nice way to expand this thread would be to pose the question -which episodes cheer you up or at least leave you more melancholy or at peace the most when you're feeling down? It reminds me of a time in university when an acquaintance of mine was feeling really upset.

He came to my room while I was playing video games with another friend and told me he was having something like "an existential crisis" and the only thing I could think of to help (not wanting to interrupt what I was doing with my other friend to try to console him but also not wanting to just kick him out because I was busy), I basically said, "well I've got a bunch of TNG episodes on my computer, you're free to watch one".

He promptly selected "The Inner Light", and when it was over, he felt much better. I think episodes like "Yesterday's Enterprise", "The Measure of a Man", "The Offspring", and "All Good Things..." have a similar effect on me. In their own way, I find each life-affirming somehow.

P.S. I didn't mention any DS9 episodes since I'm still fairly new to the show, but others should feel free to. The other option is this thread could be moved to the "general" section if this 'spin-off' topic I've suggested is approved.

I just watch I, Mudd and laugh my silly ass off.

Little Green Men also cheers me up to no end (if we're on DS9).

Any of the episodes with big battles, I'll skip to the battle and just watch that. Nothing like seeing ships explode to make you feel good.

the OFFSRPING is my favorite episode of TNG. The first time I saw it I was nearly bawling like a baby...I did have tears in my eyes. Spinder and the young lady who played LAL really deliver the goods in that episode.

Inner Light is another great inspirational episode as well....

DS9's VISTOR--DUET and FAR BEYOND THE STARS all fall in this catagory as well..

I know what you mean. I've always liked that episode, but it was only the last time I watched it (just this year) that I realized how truly moving it is. That moment where she says "thank you for my life" as she's dying was unbelievably powerful. It got me really teary.

I've always thought the future of Baseball in Star Trek was a bit odd. I know the trek universe is supposed to be one that is totally different from ours, but I just can't see the sport dying like they suggested. Glad to see this is a difference in the two.

^ That's a divergence I welcome. Unlike in Trek, baseball will never die. :techman:

And I always wondered what Sisko's favorite baseball team would be. I mean a *real* team (not the made-up ones on the show). I'm guessing it would be the San Francisco Giants, because 1) Avery Brooks wore one of their caps during rehearsals and 2) Cirroc Lofton is Kenny Lofton's nephew.

Voyager - Scorpion

The Voyager series at the time just seemed to be trundling along not doing very much.

So Ive sat myself down to watch another episode.

Nearly shat myself. :rommie:

First time Ive ever had a fright watching Star trek.
Fantastic episode. Blow me away. Very happy after watching that.:bolian:

PS, Whats the one when Paris picks up, what he thinks is just a helmet, only to find theres a decapitated head in it. :guffaw:

Another great episode.

Species 8472
