The Ashes 2009

A pretty decent partnership going on here - Clarke on 82. If Australia get a century partnership or two from the middle order, they're right back in this game.

Indeed. Is it time for another dodgy umpiring decision?

Seriously, I don't think they have another 300 runs in them. And it's not going to rain tomorrow (though maybe tonight).

The fat lady has put her sheet music away and sat down.

New ball means more chance of a wicket, but also more chance for runs from a partnership well settled in.

End of the fourth day Australia has 5 wickets and 200+ runs still to go. If only we had one or two more wickets in hand...the batting if one of these two gets out early is too light. Johnson can bat but his confidence won't be that high and you bat best when you have confidence.

Points to Greg Matthews for the Star Trek reference in the SBS coverage. When talking about a team chasing down 500+ he said, "it's like in Star Trek. <long pause> It's the final frontier."

Pretty sure he was looking for "Going where no man/one has gone before" but close enough. He also got in an "advanced hair. Yeah, yeah" joke in so bonus points for Greg.

England look set to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory, but this is another test like Cardiff... the last day will dawn with everything still to lay for.

^ Everything still to "lay" for...that would indeed be a very interesting last day. :p

Ok, so I broke out the merlot when bad light stopped play.

Come to think of it, I might sell myself for an aussie wicket tomorrow morning. Would that be match fixing?

I really shouldn't quote myself so I won't but only England can find themselves in a position of losing a match like this...

Okay, you can have the wicket of Hilfenhaus but we'll want that back after lunch. :p

Look, if I have to lay for an Australian wicket, I think I should get to choose which wicket. And which Australian.

I choose Michael Clarke on both counts. ;)

Fine, but we'll need both back by 10 AM GMT...I would be outraged at Clarke cheating but I dislike Lara Bingle. I don't want to think about what you plan to do with that wicket...

Just give me Michael Clarke from now till 10am, and I promise you a swift English victory. Just don't ask how.

He's nearly as pretty as our Stewie Broad.

Well that killed the conversation.

Sadly, all I got was the usual teddy bear, so it looks like Michael declined to sell his wicket for my bod. Can't imagine why.

What's the weather like in Lord's today, Londoners?

Sorry ... but was talking to some family.

I haven't watched much of this test (only highlights), as I've been visiting family. Checking the scores most mornings. Hopefully if we get through the first session without a loss of wicket, we might have a chance.

Also no idea what the weather is in London. :p

Classic quote from Aggars on breakfast TV:

"Ponting-baiting is almost as good as the Ashes itself". Too damned right! :D
