The Ashes 2009

And another wicket before lunch 72-6. If the bowlers wrap this up hopefully the our batsmen will not suffer the same fate as England has so far.

Now THIS is more like it :bolian:

The Ashes are finally alive and well - pity it's taken us this long to get the snarl back and light things up.

I do feel a little (very little :p) for England. I thought it was an uncharacteristically positive move from them playing an extra bowler rather than six batters, especially at 1-0 up, and I was impressed with them for playing aggressive cricket - pity it's backfired spectacularly here.

England need to climb mountains after lunch to get back into this one.

So good to see Stuey Clark (3/7) back. The amateur selectors here at Trekbbs got that one right four tests ago.

Oh, I just had a skim read of a few reviews, and watched some trailers for that Ashes game - think my wallet will be staying shut for now - batsmen look a bit awkward and the shots look totally unnatural to me.

We've scraped past that. 1 wicket left though.

It's alright Harmy will be our saviour :D

Hopefully Anderson didn't strain anything when he stretched to make the run.

Edit: England all out 102

1/61 off 9 overs.

Ponting looks very good to me, he's almost seen off a brutal spell from Harmison.

Anderson and Onions bowling rubbish.

England are almost out of the game now, halfway through Day 1.

I expect there's a substantial element of Stockholm Syndrome in my thinking. Cricket games are very few and far between so anything is quite welcome. :D

(Incidentally, my England are 308/1 at tea. I shall be writing a letter full of advice to the ECB presently! ;))

I know, I'm fighting very hard to resist the urge to go out and buy the damn thing first thing tomorrow  The last really good cricket game we had here in Australia must have been a decade ago now. The last review I read says that the ordinary graphics are made up for by the gameplay. A quick in store play might be needed, I think!

Anyone for a warm English beer?

I'd probably enjoy it a lot more than any of the local on-tap product  I'm a red wine drinker, but not uncorking anything just yet. Funny game this cricket, but I'm not sure anyone can stop us getting a big, match winning lead here.

Wow, 14 (Aus 152 - 4) wickets have fallen and there are still around 20 overs left in the day. Has anyone told these teams that its a FIVE day test match?

The licencee at Headingley is biting his fingernails to the quick at the loss of earnings if this is over in three days.

Well, the complete and utter stupidity of not selecting Clark from day one has been comprehensively demonstrated. He doesn't do anything fancy; just full and at the stumps and wait for mistakes - so simple, yet very effective. Shame it took so long for the selectors to muster what little brain power they appear to possess and get it right (of course, Merv's too busy dragging tour groups around England to bother with doing his job properly ).

Shame about the late wickets but hopefully Clarke and North can put another big partnership together.

(Thanks for the link, Revd. :bolian:)

*Slaps EP with a wet ceolacanth[/b]*

Cricket is Teh Live - NuBSG will wait quietly on disk/drive.. even VHS.
I'm playing catchup, after I brought it as a birthday present from a chain I only use when I get gift vouchers, as they aren't as good as JB Hifi, but there was only Sanity where the gift voucher was.

England all out 102...too much joy :rommie:
Indeed. Australia bowled well.

Shame about the late wickets but hopefully Clarke and North can put another big partnership together.

Missed that as I went to bed around the time Ponting was playing well. Hopefully Clarke and North can go, as Clarke as been our form batsman. Not sure what time I'll be tonight, as I'm heading to Sydney in the morning.

Still weeping. Now into my hot English Breakfast tea.

Swanny is scorching himself on Starbucks coffee as I write. Needs to bowl a few scorchers.

My Day 1 at stumps:

Do say if fake cricket is too depressing or annoying in a real cricket thread (seriously).

It's a little disappointing when a test match is so out of reach so quickly. Affects the entertainment value. Still, a revitalised performance this morning might go some way towards repairing the damage.

The only depressing thing about the fake cricket is that my local tesco have already seolf out!

The real cricket... not that's depressing!

I've had a look at some of the views about the Wii version and they're not entirely positive I'm afraid. That might be from people who are more serious about it being a realistic representation of cricket though. There are also some very positive reviews. It's a little early to tell as most people have the PS3/XBox versions

The liveliest discussion about the game is here, where you'll find a few views on the Wii version. I warn you in advance that it is a terrible BBS though, the standard of discussion is very poor and every comment should have an enforced YMMV below it!
