The Aschen?

Silversmok3

Commander
Red Shirt
I just downloaded 2010 to my ipod,and am curious of something;

Since the planet was deleted from the dialing computer,Stargate command doesn't know of the Aschen's existence:or vice versa.

So,unless I missed something, the Aschen are still somewhere in the Milky Way causing trouble right?

That's a bad guy thread that never got closed while SG1 was on,and I believe the Aschen would have made a better villian(s)for movies than the Ori or Baal.(Not that I'm I'm bashing either movie-)

^That's incorrect.

The SGC does know who the Aschen are. "2010" says that we met them, we became part of their larger civilisation, they got rid of the Goa'uld etc then we found out they were sterilising everyone so O'Neill and co send the message back in time and Hammond locks the address where we first met them out of the dialling computer.

I'm going to put the next part in spoiler tags out of courtesy as I assume you haven't seen it, most others on here will have.

In "2001", SG-1 visits a planet that is part of the Aschen Confederation. The inhabitants introduce SG-1 to the Aschen and negotiations start with the intention of creating an alliance with Earth. Daniel discovers that the civilisation used to be a lot more advanced but regressed to a simple farming society after joining the Aschen. In addition, with some work with the Gate computer they figure out that the world they were told never to visit is probably within Aschen space.

Daniel gets Carter to trick the Aschen in to translating the last word in a newspaper headline he was unable to read - "sterility". They had used the same trick on these people as they would have used on Earth. They break off negotiations and leave the Aschen. They had given the Aschen a laptop with Gate addresses as a sign of good faith in negotiations. It's just a shame, for them, that the first one on the list was a black hole and then the list got progressively worse from there.

Indeed, but what about the SGC? They gave them the address to a black hole. More advanced or not, what happens if they couldn't close the worlhole as SG-1 figured in their first encounter with it? The whole population of Aschen would be killed.

They had other worlds and colonies, but yeah their homeworld is gone, and they are pissed. There was going to be a followup on it, but it never came about.

There is no evidence outside of non-canon tie-in novels that the Aschen actually lost their homeworld because of SG-1's actions.

Brad Wright wanted to do a third episode in the series but never found time to do it. It kept getting put back.

More advanced or not, time dilation is a biatch.

On the bright side the the Aschen homeworld wouldn't die at all,at least not for the next 3 million years.

The SGC was lucky enough to disconnect the wormhole before the time dilation got really ugly.It also helps that the black hole had just formed when the crisis started.

Whereas the moment the wormhole opened on 'Aschen Prime' they'd be immediately screwed.
Which given that their MO is killing other worlds slowly is poetic justice at its best.

As far as the Aschen striking back,it would have been cool to see some bad guys who fight with their brains instead of their sarcophagus-enhanced egos.

Which novel covered this?

The Aschen aren't stuipid, they would have used one of the gates on their "Agriculture Worlds" to test the addresses they got from us. They would figure since they were going to stab us in the back, we might do the same. They don't seem to be the type who would take any sort of risks. They would probably loose some of their agriculture worlds and be really pissed as it would throw their society into famine.

I wonder if any Ori Priors visited their worlds, as they could easily help them with their "food" problems after loosing some of their ag worlds to the evil SGC list.

Maybe they have a few worlds with nothing of value on them, they might loose one of them...... maybe....

I like the idea of a "Revenge Fleet" of really slow Hyperdrive ships from the Aschen heading to earth scheduled to arrive sometime around 2061...... Or Sleeper ships of non FTL ships scheduled to arrive in 3001....

Gotta keep the Arthur C Clark refs!!!!

I read Relativity about a month ago ,which is the genesis of the question.
One of the plots of the novel involve the Aschen playing shadow bad guys, manipulating events as plotters.I kinda went hmm,the Gould were victims of their own arrogance, and the Ori just rolled over the galaxy until Ark of Truth.

The Aschen would have made better bad guys than either the Goa-ould or the Ori,as the Aschen would have a personal reason to want to start a war with us.

The other two races were trying to wipe us out because that's just standard procedure for aliens bent on domination.
The Aschen would make a calculating and intelligent enemy who'd be just as sneaky as SG-1.

Plus they're pretty good at the whole helping out a race only to stabb them in the back at a later date thing.

I just found the Aschen to be really boring and uninteresting.

I LOVED THE ASCHEN. They were my favourite bad guys and I would be happy if they brought out an entire series with the Aschen as the bad guys.

Given that O'Neill nicknames one of them "Boring" (his actual name was Boren), that was the intention. They were, however, a lot smarter than the Goa'uld. Their plan to take over Earth worked, remember ?

Well almost worked if SG-1 hadn't pulled the old time travel reboot on their asses.
