The answer is in the new trailer!!!!

Probably not. OTOH, if I'm making a trailer for general consumption and I put a shot into it of a ray-beam stirring up the water while some little figures in red coats watch it, instead of a shot of a ray-beam wiping out the Golden Gate bridge or some big recognizable structures - it's probably because there are no shots of any such things.

These trailers always try to imply things that aren't actually in the film. Like, in this case, Uhura having sex with Kirk (most people aren't going to 'analyze' the trailer frame by frame, like we do ;) )

Oh ffs...

Starfleet Academy isn't home base, PARIS is.

Starfleet academy is just where they train the guys, its not home base, and its already hinted in enterprise there's starfleet training facilities around earth including Alice Springs, Australia where they conduct survival training.

So, for an accurate list of not "home base" being destroyed, but a key tactical point being destroyed....

Jericho - 20-somethign american cities were destroyed in the first 8 minutes, including washington DC.

Terminator 2 opening sequences, depdning on which directors cut you watch, shows the nukes going off then playgrounds burning.

Starship Troopers 1 - Half a coast gets hit by a bug sent asteroid

Independence Day - so many cities and bases including Washington DC

Enterprise the Expanse - Florida

Eugenics Wars then WW3 - Half the world, lol

Matrix - we fucked ourselves to fuck the machines which fuck us with our own tactic

Battlestar Galactica - self explanatory

...forgot the movies name, but terrorist nuke during the Superbowl and president was in his helicopter as it goes off, another Jack Ryan story derived from Tom Clancy's novels

...again forgot its name, but it was an australian miniseries in early 90's based on nuclear war

and on and on and on and on the lsit is limitless when you take into accoutn damaging attacks rather than hoem base attacks,

Home base is PARIS not San-Fran

And, yippppeeee!

Could the attack on SF be the Pearl Harbor-like event that was mentioned months ago? Bet on it, I say.
.

What did you see actually destroyed in that shot?
From the looks of the bit in the commercial, it seemed they were drilling in what today is the Golden Gate shipping channel, just inside the bridge and just to the west of Alcatraz. Not sure what that would be intended to accomplish.
maybe nero was aiming at the last two humback whales, george and gracie!;)

Home base is PARIS not San-Fran

Actually, San Francisco is home to Starfleet HQ as well as the Academy. Paris is where the UFP is headquartered, at least in TNG times. I think that might move around based on what species is currently the president.

It was Paris in TUC, too, wasn't it?

If that drill was being used on Vulcan to deliver red matter into the planet in order to cause its destruction, then Nero could be drilling anywhere.
So, drilling right in Starfleet's backyard is perhaps a demonstration of Nero's power?

Given the Enterprise didn't know what it was going to encounter when called to Vulcan, I doubt the SF scene is before that. Remember, from what we know, it's Kirk who puts two-and-two together based on what happened the day the Kelvin was destroyed and says it's a Romulan attack.

Still, as I posted above, I keep thinking back to the blue screen pictures this was obviously for and remembering the cadets were supposed to be witnessing a type of surprise attack like Pearl Harbor. So, after all this, I guess it boils right down to who knows? But guessing is free.

The Office of the President of the United Federation of Planets is located in Paris. The Federation Council, of which the President is head, can apparently be convened in more than one location, among them the Council Chambers located in San Francisco. Starfleet Headquarters is located in Sausalito, on the opposite side of the Golden Gate from the Academy, which sits on the old Presidio grounds in San Francisco.

Oh, and please don't call it "San-Fran".

Well, if they do blow up SF, good!

About time something of actual consequence happened. There's a reason NYC has been destroyed about 10,000 times in movies. SF is the NY of the future in Trek, so of course it's going to get a beating first if Earth is attacked.

I believe that with the attack on SF and the destruction of the Kelvin, which may have been protecting Earth from Nero, Starfleet in a act of panic and paranoia of a future attack may have split the construction of ships to different locations on Earth, instead of a tight concentration orbiting Earth.

The shipyards above Earth may well be completely destroyed along with shipyards in Mars as well.

This attack on Starfleet HQ certainly opens up many doors.

This would also be totally reasonable and make lots of sense, allowing fears about the changed timeline and seeing the Enterprise built in Iowa instead of in Earth orbit over S.F. to be allayed. To be frank, if Nero's attack is to blame for all of this then many of my fears about the movie's timeline are starting to go away...after all, if the entire movie after the Narada emerges from its time vortex into the 2230s is a changed timeline independent of TOS and the later shows and films, then I feel better.

May I suggest that the attack on SF takes place, but Kirk goes back in time to stop it.

This leads the older Spock to go back in time to save Kirk from dying on Veridian III.

If the old spock did save kirk then another writer like Ron moore would just find a worse way to kill him off again.

I would strongly advise against betting the farm on seeing the Shat. I seriously doubt that the above listed will ever happen, ever from any writer.

I think the attack on SF takes place in Kirk's time. The drill will get done at Vulcan, whether it succeeds or fails, and then it will move on to Earth. And that will lead up to the climactic, and highly cliched, Destroy-The-Superweapon-In-The-Last-Five-Seconds sequence.

You forgot to mention how it will be some kind of SFXs Bonanza where crap and I hope a few redshirts blow up every few seconds. Should be awesome!

Still waiting for that list.

You got your list!
I got a couple of posts from four or five people. That hardly qualifies as "so so so so many times."

I'm waiting for kirk1980 to come back and back up his own words.

I'm sure he won't.
He'd be restating what has already been stated many times in this thread (at least one of those lists was long, far more than you deserved), so what the hell would be the point? To prove he can still type?

Not only that, you should be perfectly capable of obtaining that kind of info on your own, but I guess that would invalidate your own POV, wouldn't it?
