Exited a building just in time to see a mama possum with babies all over her back walking on the sidewalk. Went into the bushes but left one baby behind. Is mom gonna come back? Am I preventing mom from coming back? Couldn't just leave it there, it was just sitting there, wasn't afraid of me, easy prey. So I grabbed the baby, turned it around, and sent it into the bushes.

Upon doing an internet search, I learned that mom isn't coming back for it. Did I just give it a death sentence?

I got the baby possum killed. Wildlife rehab said it was too young to survive on its own and needed to be taken in so I went back for it and something had taken a bite out of it.
