During our recent trip out of town, I was fortunate to get some pictures of a butterfly chrysalis when we stopped at a roadside produce shop. I haven't been able yet to identify what species this might be, and any help would be appreciated. I have ruled a few species it isn't, but it's kind of hard to get decent results with limited search descriptors.

I also took a walk today and saw some interesting insects for late summer, including wasps, bees, dragonflies and butterflies. There were a lot of pollinators out on some of the flowers that are still active, more than I was initially expecting. One bumblebee was caught by a large green lynx spider, which was apparently holding it upside down while feeding.

There was also a good sized grasshopper nestled in one of the branches, and normally these are far more skittish than this one. I often see them on walks but typically while they're jumping away from humans and other large creatures, and they rarely let an observer get so close.
