I love elephants. I won't go visit them in zoos though because it makes me too sad... :(
I have some very mixed feelings about zoos. On one hand, a lot of them do a lot to help species and for conservation, and I do think giving people a chance to see them in person can really open their eyes to what they're like. On the other hand, they I do feel bad that they're being kept in captivity, although the big major zoos have gotten a lot better over the last few decades.

That's about my position too.

I think the large reserves are truly about conservation, and some zoos believe they are too, but animals need room to roam, even if it's ultimately fenced in. I reckon if a zoo can provide enough space, they would qualify.

One good thing about zoos, the food and medicine is top tier.

They should have brought a bigger boat

That's one of the things that's great about Skydog Mustang Sanctuary, the horses, donkeys, zonkeys, etc. have literally thousands of acres to roam and live almost completely wild, but at the same time they're provided with extra food, and medical care if a problem comes up.
