We back out at the park with the big open desert area with our dog Gracie today, and this time we saw two groups of donkeys. The first group had about 5 or 6, and this time I gave Gracie to my mom, and actually got within about 30ish feet of them. The thing that kind of surprised is that they actually kept coming closer to me, for a minute when they first started coming I thought they come right over to me but they did stop. I inched a little closer, but my mom said that smaller one that we think might have been their baby was getting nervous, and then one of the adults looked right at me and gave a big snort. So I took that as a hint that I was making them nervous, and we moved on.
Had a bit of scary moment on the way back to the enterance to the desert area. The donkeys were still there when we went back, and as walked by another one joined them, but for a few seconds when it first came up to them, it ran straight us at a full gallop. I panicked and started backing up faster, but it stopped pretty far back from us, once it got close to the others. When it stopped one of the others went over to it, and I was kind of jockingly wondering if it was telling the new one we were OK.
Then once we were going back into the main part of the park, another group ran past behind us. There looked like there were about as many as in the other group, but I only got a good look at the last two. We were wondering if they were possibly going to meet up with the other group, because they seemed to be headed in that direction.
Anybody on here know anything about donkey behavior to know exactly what a snort means?
@Worf factor9, you seem to know quite a bit about horses, do you know anything about donkeys?
