The Americans is Delightful.

If that character doesn't survive I will riot!

Another thing...when I saw the blond woman go after the Russian guy for half a second I thought it was Renee. i think she's just a red herring..either that or she shoots Stan in the back when he arrests Elizabeth and Philip.

All these loose ends and only one episode left. I have a feeling there's going to be a few threads left dangling.

I have a feeling there will be too.. I just pray they don't try to shoehorn everything in a nice pretty package at the end. There are too many things left unknown.

I'm curious about how the Stan/Philip/Elizabeth thing will end.

Going from the preview, it sounds as if he wants to kill them. But yet I'm having a sneaking suspicion that maybe they'll be working together some how. So it'll be something to see how things end up.

I'm hoping Renee is one of those loose threads left dangling. I love how much viewers, especially the critics, have gone around in circles trying to determine if she's more than what she appears or if she's just a red herring, and I want it remain unaddressed.

I'm telling you, she works for the UN and Mulder and Scully will be in the finale.

A thought occurs: If Philip and Elizabeth go on the run and manage to get away, what happens to Henry? Would Stan take custody of him, even though he suspects the truth? If they're caught, does he get toss into the foster care system? How old is Henry anyways?

When Stan sees the footage from the meet with the priest, the cat'll be out of the bag for sure.

Philip's money troubles may have prevented Henry from attending his private school for his senior year so it sounds like he's in 11th grade. My niece is in 11th grade and she turns 17 in two months. So Henry should around that age.

Vox's Todd VanDerWerff looked deeply into the hows and whys the show's final season is so damn good and became the perfect conclusion for the series.

The Americans has constructed a remarkable final season not by trying to become something other than itself. Instead, it has refocused on the three questions that made it so good in the first place, questions ably expressed by the scenes I saw being filmed: What is your home? Who is your family? And what do they matter?

Just a few more hours and we will know how it ends. I'm going completely dark on the internet until after I've watched the finale tonight...I don't want to catch even a whiff of a spoiler. See you guys on the other side...

I rate this finale:wah::wah::wah::wah::wah: out of :wah::wah::wah::wah::wah:.

"START" ranks among some of the finest series finales, including but certainly not limited to "Goodbye, Farewell and Amen," "-30-," "Sleeping in Light," "All Good Things," "Felina," "Meanwhile," and for me personally but I know not everyone will agree, "The End."

I knew this before the episode was even over. What sold it for me was the heartbreaking and riveting conversation in the garage between Stan and Philip. We've been bracing for this conversation since the very first episode and it exceeded well beyond my expectations. The anger, the hurt, the confusion, the disgust Stan felt cut so deeply and I could tell just how much all of that pained Philip because he genuinely considered Stan his one and only friend. I honestly wasn't sure if Stan would let them go or if he would arrest them or even shoot Philip, right up to the moment they finally drove away. I swear if Noah Emmerich and Matthew Rhys don't get Emmys for that scene alone, something is seriously screwed up. The one and only oddity about the scene for me was how Stan didn't bring up Amador because he knew Elizabeth was there that day, but I guess Sofia and Gennadi were fresher on his mind.

I was already tearing up during that scene, but as soon as I heard the first chords of "Brothers in Arms," I lost it. That song already has so much meaning for me because of how it's used in my favorite episode of The West Wing and it's just as powerful here. That same power and resonance is true, perhaps even more so, for "With or Without You," especially the moments with Stan sitting by Renee's bedside. Philip left that horrible thought in Stan's mind and he'll probably never truly shake it off. I'm grateful the show left her status ambiguous but that look on her face after comforting Stan outside their house felt telling to me.

However, the biggest heartbreak for me was when Paige decided to stay behind. For the briefest of moments, I was convinced one of the three would be picked up by the sheriffs and I became even more certain it was going to be Paige. Then we saw her standing alone on the platform and my heart leaped out of me just as it did for both Elizabeth and Philip, and I completely lost it. I like how the show doesn't answer what happens to her next, how she's able to continue to live and how the FBI will come down on her considering her absence for around 24 hours. I wondered if Stan would buckle under pressure and guilt and tell Dennis that he let them go, which make things all the more awkward for Paige, but I think he ate that bullet because he had no choice. But what will he say to Paige? Oh, so many questions.

I was somewhat hoping Martha would show up during the "Brothers in Arms" montage, but it's probably for the best that she didn't. She had her proper farewell with her conversation with Gabriel last season. Besides, she's not the only character who was already gone who wouldn't appear, including Nina, Gaad, Gabriel, Claudia, Mischa, and Tatiana. That said, I didn't expect to see Gregory to pop up in Elizabeth's dream and I wasn't even sure it was him until I saw Derek Luke's name in the closing credits (and I promptly looked him up) because I couldn't even remember what the character looked like (although I'm pretty sure he had a lot more hair).

The only real complaint I have with the episode is tied with how I wanted a scene showing Henry processing the truth. I'm fine with Stan's conversation with him taking place during the montage because it would've been too long and complicated to fit in, but it would've been nice to see a conversation between the two of them set later on with him trying to understand what happened. Who was his parents? Who is he? What does he do now? His and Paige's fates were better left ambiguous but I wanted to see that conversation.

Like I said, so many questions. That's what made this finale truly great. It left me wanting more and allows me to fill in some of the blanks on my own.

I don't know if we'll ever have show like The Americans again. I will sorely miss it, but at least I have a marathon of the whole series to look forward because I've only ever watched any of the episodes once. I can't wait to see what else I'll learn about the show that I missed the first time around.

Yes. This was an outstanding series finale.

A few ideas and observations about what the future might hold for these characters.

Stan has committed treason. If Renee is KGB, then she has something pretty major on him that might be used to turn him.

Paige drinking Vodka in the apartment where she, her mom, and Claudia talked about Russia suggests that she might be open to doing some work for the KGB in the future. Her life has been compromised severely, and it might well be up to Stan to try to take care of her as well as Henry. Pastor Tim fell in line to cover for her, and it looks like Stan will too. Although her chances of infiltrating the State Department have been shot, Stan can make it look like she and Henry were both innocent victims in the whole thing. So, she can still have a future with no criminal record, out of prison, and not under suspicion. I suspect it might go into Philip's and Elizabeth's reports to their superiors that Paige has been told of the possibility that Renee is KGB. So, if Renee is KGB, then they might make contact with Paige, if for no other reason than to keep tabs on her and make sure she doesn't blow Renee's cover. Ergo, and in any case, Paige could still be useful to the KGB in some capacity, and she might even elect to collaborate with them after digesting all the lies and half-truths she's been fed and the realities that she has to face.

If Renee is KGB, then the big question is where her loyalties lie, with Gorbachev or against him.

I was thinking it was a fake out and that Renee was going to be just a red herring but that look she gave to the Jennings house said it all...she's definitely a spy. Or maybe not.

The garage scene was one of the most powerful scenes I've ever seen either on tv or in a movie. I genuinely did not know how it was going to turn out. Stan was either going to arrest them, let them go or shoot Philip or maybe even one of the Jennings was going to attack him and then someone could've been killed. What if Stan didn't move away from the car? Would Elizabeth run him over? I don't know.

I was actually thinking that the Center was going to take out Philip and Elizabeth when they got back to Russia but I guess by then the plot against Gorbachev was foiled. The finale was surprisingly non violent. no gun shots or chases or anything like that.

I was shocked when Paige left the train. I just think she couldn't leave Henry behind and all alone.

The Americans better rack up some Emmy wins for acting or i will freaking riot. Definitely one of the best series finales ever.

Omg.... i cannot put words together about this yet... It has been LONG time since a tv show made me cry.. So much anguish in this episode. I guess, in truth, I would have liked a “here’s what happens five years later” glimpse... but still.. Damn... Can we lobby the Emmys???

Part of me was glad Elizabeth made it out alive, part of me wasn't. She has to live with the loss of her kids, but even in that past back then, they could have gotten back together somehow. All those throats slit and she gets away with it all. That's what I didn't expect.

And what happens to Paige now? How much does Stan eventually reveal? Henry is innocent, Paige isn't, although Paige didn't really do a whole lot other than collaborate.

I want a follow up mini-series.
