The Amazing Race - 9/28/08 - Live Commentary

Yeah I actually expected Ken and his estranged wife to be the ones that truly annoyed me, but no Terrence and Sarah did that just fine on their own.

I suppose it's possible that the rushed production of this version is going to produce shorter legs all around. That'll be unfortunate, but I'm hoping that there will be more content in the next few legs.

The sad thing is they generally don't have roadblocks in the first episode (even with two hour), they just use it to showcase the teams more and to show a little more of the navigation and tasks.

So it isn't like they don't have the footage.

And I still am pissed about them cutting the episode order down to 11.

I could understand it if the ratings were bad, but they aren't. In fact last season was its 2nd best performance ever. When most shows are losing viewers its been doing better.

Oh and to be specific, besides them getting rid of the Fast Forward throughout all the legs (except the final) the production does the same amount of work, same number of tasks, and same amount of footage.

Just two fewer legs.....

No, they start filming cycle 14 in about a month. So (unless the ratings tank) will have another one this spring.

Terence was getting a little controlling there. "She shouldn't be talking to other people, she should be holding me!" "She can't talk right now, she's climbing, so I'll talk for her." Creepy.

No one else is too irritating so far.

So is Terrence and Sarah the "annoying" group this season? I wish it wasn't so, but with Sarah's complaining, I was like "isn't it a little early for a nice couple like these two being pain in the asses?" I don't have much else to say about this episode other than I like Nick and Starr, and I'm glad the hippies are gone. They looked overmatched and I really didn't want to see them next week.

Glad The Amazing Race is back, but kinda let down that it's only 11 episodes or so.

Nothing to add. I'm just glad the show is back, and pissed Phil didn't get nominated for Best Host. He rocks.
I agree, my newspaper the morning before the Emmy's suggested Phil rather than do the "Our Pick for Reality Show Host is.." from the other 5.

I third that Nick is probably batting for our team; it's the tone in his voice and the fact that he's a performer for a play that makes him a candidate. But he (and Dallas) are HAWT! :D

Nick and Starr ARE just as nice as they seem. I directed Nick a few years ago in a production of The 1940's Radio Hour. Very tight family, and very NICE family.

Nick's been off-Broadway starring in The Fantasticks. I hope he gets some kind of TV gig from this. (He looks like he could fit in on CSI as a "fresh out the academy" kind of character)

And to my knowledge, Nick was definitely straight when we worked together.

Nice to hear that about Nick and Starr. Small world, eh? (And I suppose I should know better that to try and figure it out THAT fast.)

Terence was getting a little controlling there. "She shouldn't be talking to other people, she should be holding me!" "She can't talk right now, she's climbing, so I'll talk for her." Creepy.

He's a tool. Those statements proved it.

My teams so far are:

1) Nick and Starr
2) Mom & Dallas
3) The Best Friends

Oh lord Terrence take a chill pill already.

And I think Nick bats for my team....

I think that was pretty obvious! All that dance aerobic stuff in the park and he is really close to his sister. I bet they go out looking for guys together too! ;)

Oh and can someone please shut up whiny New York "I don't have to work for a living - I earn money training runners" Guy, who then whines at his his g/f because she is running ahead of him and he can't keep up!!!

WTF?!?

:wtf:

I'm a little surprised at the positive reaction to Nick and Starr here. I didn't hate them or anything, they just seemed to me to be one of those super competitive slightly arrogant teams that always gets in the way of the teams I really like winning. That could change by next episode...my first impression of them just wasn't entirely positive.

Well, we also have to remember the show is edited so some teams come off as the types we expect each race. (Dysfunctional couple, nice underdogs, the schemers, arrogant blowhards, ones who say they have a plan but you know they really don't, couple you're rooting for romantically, etc.)

Hey everyone, sorry I missed the show live, I recorded it though, gonna watch it later, really looking forward to it. Just from looking at the contestants this season I'm goin for the Bro/Sis team already :D

^ Don't worry about it. I can handle the threads from here on out.

And TG, I have to agree. I have a feeling that Nick & Starr, Ken & Tina, Terrence & Sarah, Toni & Dallas, and Mark & Bill are the ones who are going to go a long way in this Race, based mainly on how much screen time they got over the other teams.

Thank you Turbo, it has been so crazy busy lately I cannot guarantee I'll be here live every Sunday night this season.
