The Amazing Race - 4/12/2009 - (Live Commentary/Discussion)

Whew, that 2 week break was killer!

Rooting Around In People's Mouths Could Be Unpleasant (Thailand)

One racer's Roadblock goes up in smoke. One team finds itself at the mercy of a slow moving Thai shopkeeper. Lesson not learned from Toni and Dallas last season - one team goes to the mat without their passports. A racer wanders through Bangkok-barefoot and one racer goes hours out of the way to retrieve "mementos".

Wow - what a tremendous lack of judgment - for mulitple teams!

And the whole "find the dentures" task - bleahhhh :wtf:

Since when is it against race rules to use personal possessions as payment for taxi rides you can't afford fully? I swear I've seen racers do this in the past.

I've seen them bargain down a driver, but I'm not sure about the personal possessions part...

I dunno about anyone else, but if I was on the Race, I'd be taking my backpack with me everywhere I went. I guess I'm just a little paranoid that way.

I seem to remember that as well...
Didn't the one where the married couple made it to the finale but had no money finish with the husband giving away his watch? Or did the cabbie just let them go without paying?

Rules change.. and the teams know what the rules are as well as the penalties. I wonder if the camera crew is allowed to warn a team about a possible violation - the crew are the ones reporting it, so they know. I'd also argue that two pretty girls talking a cabbie into a free ride is using a personal possession for payment.

Also stacking the penalties is cruel. Two hours is pretty much a death sentence for a penalty you cannot correct - stacking two to make it four hours is essentially disqualifying a team. that the brothers are still in the race is pure luck (and likely temporary) as non-DQ legs are set in advance. Unless there is a huge choke point coming up, they have no chance.

All that it'll take is for an event to be closed and then everyone will bunch up. It happens every time.

Joy. Once again, this starts 40 minutes late, completely screwing up my tv watching. And for what? Fucking GOLF!

Luke is adorkable. I can't wait to see him in shorts again next week. ... The girls need to GO. They are the very definition of "ugly American" the way they acted in that cab ... well, through the whole episode, really.

The brothers are just stupid. They KNOW the rules, but blatantly disregard them leg after leg after leg. They're still in it, which is amazing, but not for much longer.

Man, I hope the brothers can't catch up next week. I don't mind Mike, but Mark annoys the crap out of me.

I love Equalizers. Especially if I dislike the first team to get to one. I love watching them realize all their scheming hasn't helped them a bit!

Kudos for actually being able to tell them apart. Unless the team is male/female, I can never remember which team member is which.

The host made a big deal about the two girls leaving their identifications in the car, but I noticed that nobody mentioned that they also left a cabbie waiting by the docks (without payment or any indication that they were coming back). Don't you still have to pay a cabbie to his satisfaction in order to check-in?

They probably paid him, but the footage might not have been edited into the episode because they considered it inconsequential.

That's EXACTLY the phrase I was thinking of at the time, too. A pair of royal bit***s.
