The Amazing Race 19 - Season Discussion

The cheating is back in the Race. Last night the snowboarders blatently gave the answer to the task to another team. In the scheme of things, it didn't help the other team, but, this sort of thing really turned me off from the last race so it was highly disapointing to see it again. The snowboarders should have received some sort of penalty to, if nothing else, send a message to the other teams not to do this in the future. Sadly, it seems the negative response to the cheat filled Unnfinshed Business Race has had no effect on the producers.
There is no rule on the show about not being able to help or assist another team. You do understand that teams have helped other teams going all the way back to season one of the race. It isn't a new thing. Not at all. In fact if you are careful, you can find at happen at least once in every single season (usually a lot more then once).

I personally think it's terrible that they put two people who have already won a million each in a reality show on the Amazing Race (for the second time). Give real people a chance. Those people already had theirs. :(

I agree people who have already won a million dollars don't have to be so greety and try to win a million again. Give the other people a chance to win for a change.

Why? CBS doesn't care about giving other people a chance, they care about ratings. Familiar faces are more likely to bring in viewers than some nobodies off of the street. Besides, if Ethan & Jenna had won, they probably would have donated a good chunk of their prize to charity.

The thing about this season for me though is I don't care how famous these teams are, it's the content that's getting old. Unfortunately the show always wins emmys to the point where I don't think they are going to change.

A few weeks back my Dad had an idea that you do like Amazing Race Singles. By that I mean you pair up 22 people who don't know each other and those pairs have to work together after meeting for the very first time and compete in the race. This way we can see a new element of team dynamic and how two strangers deal with the conditions and tribulations that the race has to offer. Think of it as kind of Amazing Race: Blind Date.

Unless there were other ways to improve the show, I think this could bring a freshness to the show that it hasn't seen in at least 10 seasons.

I'm surprised they haven't done a celebrity version yet.

I like the idea of pairing twenty-two strangers up, though. That could be fun to watch.

Doing strangers might be interesting, but I fear it would make for a rather boring season. Two strangers are less likely to blow up at each other and get overly emotional with the other person in stressful situations. To make up for this lack of drama, I feel like they would purposely cast really big, argumentative, outspoken personalities, which would be annoying to watch. With the right casting, a singles season could be interesting, but I don't think they would cast it the way we necessarily desire.

I think I have TAR burnout, Once Upon A Time starts tonight, and next week The Next Iron Chef starts, so I'm tapping out for the rest of this season.

I think I'm done after this season. This finale is so freaking predictable that it's not funny. They spent so much time about how Marcus and Armini are going home to Atlanta and I doubt they're going to win. Have a feeling Ernie and Cindy are going to win based on the first 24 minutes, and no I haven't spoiled myself.

I'm done with the Amazing Race. This show is dull as dirt now, and I called this finale 30 minutes into the show. They did all this teasing that maybe Jeremy and Sandy would catch up, but it was so obvious that the final half hour was laughable. I'm not even angry about the Dudes losing last week. This whole episode was dull and this whole season was dull. They did nothing to change it up, there was no Fast Forward, Intersection, nothing new or spontaneous, they had plenty of non-elimination weeks which sucked, and they were just going by the numbers. I swore after last season that I would be done if they didn't change it up and I was watching this season in the hope that they would. Given that they didn't, so long to this show. Maybe I'll return to watching Survivor, but the Amazing Race is done as far as I'm concerned.

And considering this board let this thread die and there were no weekly discussions, I'm assuming this board is done with the show too.

Yeah, very boring season. The snowboarders were a solid team, but they laid the Jesus on a bit too thick for me. But the way they lost was just kind of brutal. Taxi cab collusion? Ugh. There's the real problem for the show, too much of it is luck. Luck of the cab draw. Luck of what the random person on the street can tell you. I mean, asian chick and white dude (yep, still haven't learned their names despite watching the entire season) probably would've gone to the same wrong location if they happened across pickup truck dude. And oh, let's type the numbers into Google. Wow, what skill!

I'd like the show more if they told 'em exactly where to go, and just had the roadblocks and detours be brutal in difficulty and diverse in required skills. I mean, come on, the typewriter was a 5 minute challenge, and the map was a joke. Who the heck doesn't keep a journal of the what/where/when at this point? I guess the plane was a stumbling block, but pretty much only for Marcus because he went full retard. It really wasn't much of a challenge. I mean they got exact instructions and it looked like they started already in the right glide path. My God, at least make them circle into position or something.

Yeah, this season wasn't all that exciting. And yes, the finale was predictable, but so was every single episode this season, and for many of the recent past seasons. Pretty much every week I guessed who would go home within the first 15 minutes of the show. The editing is exactly the same each time, it is quite easy to pick out right away who the two last teams will be, and then a few minutes later figure out who the losers are. I actually appreciate Survivor more than Amazing Race, because although things can sometimes fall into a rut on Survivor, every so often someone will be thrown in who mixes it up a bit, like Cochran this season. I will probably still watch the Amazing Race, but I guess it depends most on the cast for next season.
