The Action Figure and Toy Collecting and Discussion Thread!

Yeah, I'm not in a rush to pay $20 each, either. Used to get the Playmates for $5 each, and would have to ask my dad for that. And then decide between a Star Trek action figure or a Star Trek book.

If the price goes down, I'll probably get 'em, but have only seen 'em at one Walgreens, so far. And if they are only putting out two characters at a time, its going to take forever to get a full crew from any series.

Okay, figures are also getting bigger, but I remember the very first action figure I ever bought with my own money, the allowance I got from my parents.

I bought a Power Droid from the original Star Wars (1977) 20-Back figure line for $1.75, including tax. It was at K-Mart and my parents let me hand my money to the cashier, myself. $2.00, and I had to do the math for how much change I'd get back.

I was four.

Okay, way back in the third grade, I found a twenty dollar bill in a brown bag with a beer bottle near the tennis courts at the high school where my mother taught. I took the bag to her, she took me & it to the principal. The principal says that if no one claimed the money in thirty days, I could have it. Of course, no one did, since it was found with a beer bottle on campus, so a month later, I got it.

And I spent the twenty on four DC Super Powers Collection action figures. I think I bought Superman, Firestorm, the Penguin, and Lex Luthor in a Power Suit. They were about four dollars each at a K-Mart in Fort Worth, and my mother taught me about sales tax, that I couldn't afford five figures. So, two good guys, two bad guys.

Has anyone gotten the new Star Trek & TNG action figures of Kirk & Picard? Saw 'em for the first time yesterday at Walgreens, and totally does not look like they are worth twenty bucks each. Am I wrong? Are they awesome out of the package?

My wife got me Kirk for Christmas. Really nice figure. I'll probably pick up Picard at some point.

The back of Picard's packaging says that there's also going to be a Michael Burnham and a TOS Spock in the line so I imagine they'll be Wave 2.

The back box of Kirk had Burnham and the cancelled Discovery phaser.

Found the Marvel Legends First 10 Years Thor / Sif Thor: The Dark World two-pack at Wal-Mart last night for just $13 plus tax. I already have this set, found at a GameStop in Abilene for clearance $25 a few months back. This set will be going to my youngest nephew for his eighth grade graduation gift in a few months since he's been asking me for a Thor action figure that includes the hammer, so the action figure releases for Thor: Ragnorak and Avengers: Infinity War don't work for him.

I think I still have the 80s version of both of those in a box somewhere.
