The Action Figure and Toy Collecting and Discussion Thread!

The "augmented reality" app makes me think of "The Moment", that self aware TimeLord weapon from "Day of the Doctor".
Oh right! I was wondering what it reminded me of. I have that one but only in small form.

I’ll bet he would have been less interested, if he could read German. :D
Why? Maybe he likes chocolate? ;)

Done for the word "Resolutions" - going out more into nature instead of reading a book at home!

With the window that was made from a picture frame, in its full glory.

https://www.walmart.com/ip/Light-Sound-Walking-Robby-the-Robot/495964718

I certainly did not expect this guy when I shopped for sundries earlier this evening! 14 inches tall, lights, audio chip and walks all for less than 20 bucks?! Of course I bought it!

I just can't figure out "Robby...in Walmart?!" Godzilla, that I understand. Major movie just last year. Marvel action figures...movies constantly being made. But "Forbidden Planet"? Except for airings every 2 to 3 months on Turner Classic Movies, it's not exactly in the general public's eye. 2020 is not even a significant anniversary for the movie. Released in 1956, it's 64 years old, not even an increment of 5, let alone 10. So, yeah, it's weird to see Robby in the most mainstream "Joe Average" store there is. Not that I'm complaining, mind you.

No remote is included. This guy operates a lot like those vintage tin pressed robot toys Japan produced in the 1960s. You know the ones; they kinda' "shuffled/roller skated across the floor. Same mechanism here. Reasonably accurate, it was modified just enough to accommodate the leg action. I've seen far less proportional Robby toys. Oh, the audio is lifted straight from the movie. Even the museum quality Hallmark ornament plays a (admittedly, very close) "sound alike".

Aww! I'm flattered!

Funny enough, that version of Mr. Freeze reminds me of Peter Capaldi. It's the hair, I think.
He does indeed! I see what you mean.
Is Doctor Who where your name comes from? I've always wondered. Nurse Redfern made quite an impression.

I made shopping bags from clothes labels today! Got the idea in a miniature group. So next time you shop for clothes, look at the labels!

Actually, it comes from my father; and he got it from his father, and my grandfather from his dad, and so on. ;)

Seriously, that really is my last name. It just happens to work well as an online moniker, too. I've had people wonder if I was the offspring of "flower children/hippies". Others wondered if it might be a "First Nations" name like Roundtree. And yet others thought it reflected a fascination with Wendy and Richard Pini's "ElfQuest".

I gather from a family lineage volume some great, great uncle published in the 1950s, the name is English, though those in the UK often spell it "Redfearn", having an "A" in there.

Already a Doctor Who fan since 1982 (during the heydays of PBS syndication), I was tickled pink when I learned a significant guest character in Doctor Who was named Redfern, even spelling it the way my particular branch does. Even cooler that the character survived her encounter with the Doctor. Shoot! He almost married her! :wtf: Yeah, I've had a bit of fun with that among my DW buddies.

Was at the Wal Mart in Lufkin the other night with my nephew, and found five of the six figures for the Marvel Legends Demogoblin BAF series. I asked him about it, and he said I should go ahead and get what I could at the time, and just look for the sixth one later. About an hour later, we were in the Wal Mart in Nacogdoches and found the sixth figure for the series.

First BAF series of the new year!

Classic Vulture! The one figure Lufkin didn't have!

Superior Octopus! Kinda bummed the tentacles are fixed, still a cool design.

Nice story! I can imagine you being tickled!
This episode is very special to me because it finally made me see the brilliance that is David Tenannt. I could not get into his Doctor at first but when he was not the Doctor, I fell for him. Or maybe it just was the brilliant sharp digital TV screen of my friend, while at home I was still watching in the analogue way.

My German family name means shrubbery in English. I hope I am not related to Bush ;)
There is a small town somewhere with this name also. I always wanted to go there and see if they sell postcards and then send them to everyone.

"Mr. Spock?

"Yes, Captain?"

"Why are there faces on our bananas?"

"Because we're a life form, you dumbo!"

Went to the Wal Mart in Lufkin this morning to get dog food. They had the new Fantastic 4 / Skrull BAF wave in stock!

So, I got 'em, and extras of Reed Richards (leg), Sue Storm (torso) & Dr. Doom (leg) so that I can have a regular Skrull and a Super Skrull BAF. The Thing has two Skrull heads, Johnny Storm has a super arm & regular arm, and the Gray She-Hulk has a super arm & regular arm.

Pictures to be posted later, after I get the Walgreens exclusive Fantastic 4 figures out to compare.

I always associated it with Wilson Rawls.

I just found most of the new Star Wars Vintage Collection figures from the Mandalorian Wave, all except The Mandalorian himself. I sort of knew he'd be the hardest of the four to track down.

My Marvel Legends Super Skrull BAF Series!

The grey She Hulk! She came with two right feet. I called the 800 number, and since they can't replace the foot, I should be getting the retro vintage white suit Storm in the mail as compensation.

Head Swap! The new Johnny Storm's head does not fit on the Walgreens Exclusive body, and the Walgreens Exclusive head is loose on the new one's body.

The fire effects from the Walgreens Exclusive work pretty well for the new Johnny Storm.

Walgreens Exclusive The Thing with the new The Thing

The head swap doesn't work, the paint jobs are too different between the figures. And that sucks, since the Walgreens Exclusive had two heads & two sets of hands, and the new one didn't come with anything except the two BAF heads.

Super Skrull BAF

I bought two of the Doom, Reed & Sue figures to be able to have a regular & super Skrull. Doom & Reed each come with a leg, Sue has the torso, Johnny has the powered & regular arms, She Hulk has the other powered & regular arms, while the Thing has two heads included.

Next project is to finish off the Dr. Strange Dormammu BAF. One more figure to get!
