The Academy--Collision Course: Paperback-Reprint?

http://www.amazon.com/Star-Trek-Aca...=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1214053125&sr=8-3

Noticed it both on Amazon.com and .de, a Paperback-reprint of Shatners Collision Course scheduled for autumm. A typical Amazon-non-Information or is this book indeed coming out?

Why not? Most Hardcovers in the past got a MMPB reprint about a year after the release of the HC, although I can't remember that it was mentioned for this book anywhere, either.

Exactly my thoughts, but on the other hand Amazon is well known for listing nonsense in their databases, it wouldn't be the first time in this case. Thats why I asked here, and hopefully KRAD or someone else from PB can confirm or deny this.

Well, Amazon makes lots of errors with their listings, but they rarely go so far as to make up ISBN numbers for imaginary books. I think we're safe. :)

Their system does seems to offer them automatic hardcover-reprint-in-MMPB reminders about a year after a ST hardcover release but, if they have announced an ISBN (it's different to the original hardcover, right?), then I'd say the MMPB of "Academy: Collision Course" has been scheduled by Pocket.

For all the criticism that goes on about Amazon, I still think they do an amazing job. It has become such a comprehensive, international site - with all those links to the second hand and remaindered markets - that it's a rare thing to seek out a book (from any era) and not be able to get any leads. I can forgive their semi-automated computer listings any errors that inevitably creep in. My days of haunting bricks 'n' mortar bookshops, week after week, on a fruitless search for impossible-to-find-stuff are gone. Now when I go into such a store I can browse at leisure, not search frantically.

final-looking Backcover-texts for Destiny and a final looking cover (grayscale) for Errand of Fury 3.

They're not. The Fall Catalogue is aimed at wholesalers and marketers. It is not meant for public consumption and has placeholder blurbs and artwork.

Errand of Fury 3 had to be changed, for example, because there was no permission from an Organian actor's estate.

Yeah, but they are probably a little more reliable than Amazon.com at least.

^ Don't you think it's at least likelier that a book mentioned in the catalogue will really be published than one that only is listed on one of the Amazon sites? For example there was (or still is, not sure) a NF novel listed for May 2008 at amazon.de, and it most likely wasn't for the TPB of the comics since that book was listed before even the individual comics were announced IIRC.

Yeah, but they are probably a little more reliable than Amazon.com at least.

A spurious comparison, because material in the catalogues is usually more preliminary -- and certainly no less preliminary -- than what shows up on Amazon. Keep in mind that the catalogues come from Pocket directly, so they're closer to the original source of the information, which means it typically represents an earlier phase of the process than anything that trickles out to Amazon. And as stated, these are works in progress, subject to modification along the way.

The only truly reliable source for information is an official announcement. And even those aren't completely reliable (see the originally announced release dates for Unity, Fearful Symmetry, and Shards and Shadows).

Ah, my bad. I just figured that since the catalouge was Pocket's it would have been more reliable.

At a guess, Amazon gets its ST information from alternate versions of Pocket catalogues and upcoming titles/ISBN lists. But not necessarily more (or less) accurate ones.
