Well, City ended up with more votes, but only after I called it, so here we go with another run off vote. Pick the best TOS episode out of these two. And if next Saturday evening, we are still in a tie, to bad, it’ll stay a tie at that point.

Balance of Terror, by a good... okay, so they're both great episodes. But Balance was first, Mark Lenard is great in it, so I went with my gut.

I frankly don't give a damn if it's derivative or not. It's a superb episode that works on every level. "City" is IMO one of the most overrated eps in all Trek. However, to each their own.

Balance of Terror. It's not my personal favorite, but it still ranks in my top 3.

Balance of Terror. It has that "Horatio Hornblower" feel to it, with two capable ship commanders trying to outwit each other; here we see the Captain Kirk we all want to see : shrewd, smart, experienced and tough.

Who cares who wins a fake ray-gun fight? Curt Jurgens played the enemy u-boat commander so much better in the original than Lenard did in the knock-off that it's hard to work up much interest.

This takes nothing away from the quality of the episode. City was terrific, but BoT is much, much better.
