The 86th Annual Academy Awards

Well-deserved directing award for Cuaron although I refuse to forgive him for cutting The Marauder's Map backstory out of his Prisoner of Azkaban adaptation.

So, my final tally is 22 out of 24, missing only Animated Short and Documentary. That's the best I've ever done. :D

Lupita Nyong'o's thank you speech was probably one of the most honest heartfelt ones I've heard in a long long time..

Trying to think of who was left out ot the "In Memoriam", clips.

It didn't win for original score But "The Book Thief was a great Movie, it really surprised me, watched it with a friend while i helped her recover from an Operation.

My predictions for the top categories:

Best Picture - 12 Years a Slave (close race with American Hustle and Gravity)

Best Director - Alfonso Cuarón for Gravity

Best Actor - Matthew McConaughey for Dallas Buyers Club

Best Actress - Cate Blanchett for Blue Jasmine (if the Woody Allen scandal damages her chances enough it could go to Amy Adams for American Hustle)

Best Supporting Actor - Jared Leto for Dallas Buyers Club

Best Supporting Actress - Lupita Nyong'o for 12 Years a Slave (close race with Jennifer Lawrence for American Hustle)

Man -- you hit 'em all. Good job!

Seriously! Out of My Vulcan Mind, I'm going to ask you to pick my lotto numbers.

Anyway, my mom wanted Gravity to win, but I had to tell her that it's a science fiction movie, which means it won't win Best Picture. She didn't believe me, but sure enough, it lost to 12 Years A Slave, which I want to see, but I'm likely to just sit there and get angry for two hours.

Great Oscars this year, and Ellen did a wonderful job as host. I would love it if she came back next year. Her humor is gentle, and fun, and it makes people feel good, and I think we need more of that.

Really loved this. Felt more laid back than previous years, and the Pizza bit was hilarious. Ellen did a great job. For once, I felt there wasn't much contraversy or hype.

I loved that they actually gave out pizza to the audience. Kudos to Brad Pitt for helping Ellen dish it out. And that mass selfie was great.

I thought most of the awards were pretty predictable, but Ellen did a great job as host. I was rooting for Chiwetel Ejiofor to win Best Actor, but I figured McConaughey pretty much had that award on lockdown.

So glad 12 Years a Slave won; it was by far my favorite movie last year. I cried like a baby at the end. Gravity was good, too, so I'm glad it got a lot of recognition. Loved American Hustle, too; a bit of bad luck that they didn't pick up one single award.

Haven't seen Dallas Buyer's Club. Will have to add that to my "to see" list.

I'd seen a couple of the best picture nominees (Her, Gravity) previously, rented Nebraska on Friday and went and saw 12 years a Slave this morning. Also saw Great Gatsby at least twice.

I'm not surprised Nebraska was shut out, it was kind of a 'niche' indie film that at times was like 'Look how awkward we can make you feel about these old people being open about their sexuality!'. It's like they dared these older actors to be as outrageous as they could. It had a feel good message and I get why it was nominated but it was not in the same league as the others.

On the other hand I'm pleased and surprised that Great Gatsby DIDN'T get totally shut out. Its sets and costumes WERE pretty amazing and deserved to be recognized for that.

I'm glad Her won a few awards, especially original screenplay because it was probably one of the most original movies to come out this year. I know I haven't seen anything like it before.

I'd say Gravity deserved every editing, sound, technical award that it got. Directing I'm not sure about but why not, it was good.

12 Years a Slave was just that amazing in the story of human endurance and sacrifice I say it deserved what awards it gained as well. I kind of wish Michael Fassbender had won just for how glorious a bastard he was in the film, and I know exactly what scene Lupita Nyong'o won for as well and it was well deserved.

Also glad J. Law didn't win a second award in two years, it would have had the Anne Hathaway backlash on her I think. I hope both Jenn and Anne start growing out their hair next year, I honestly don't like the short look on either of them.

Oh...and yay Ellen! Enjoyed her so much more than most any other of the recents hosts except maybe Hugh Jackman. Only Ellen could turn the Academy Awards into a pizza party and get away with it.

Agreed. I hope they don't wait seven years to bring her back again. And I really enjoyed Hugh Jackman as host, too. I hope he does it again at some point.
