The 5th US president on Mt. Rushmore: Was her inspiration Barack Obama

^^Not bad. How did you create the image?

OK, here is my attempt at putting Barack on Rushmore…

What do you think?
Based on the rock formation of the actual mountain, whoever did the matte painting obviously didn't realize that you have to put the 5th presidential face a bit more towards the back and more towards the upper right of George Washington.

Re: The 5th US president on Mt. Rushmore: Was her inspiration Barack O

Seriously, her being an African American United States president is not enough, because Barack Obama already claimed that mantle. If we had to put it in real world terms, how would she have come about that greatness which would allow her to claim that illustrious iconic spot on the face of Mt. Rushmore?

Well, there is still WWIII, and who knows, maybe Lily Sloane goes on to create a better future because of what she saw with Zephram Cochrane. It seems logical. The events of the time and just prior to the time allow for this. Nothing like great historical events and an inspirational person to create a cult of personality.

Re: The 5th US president on Mt. Rushmore: Was her inspiration Barack O

Could this fictional-future president of the United States who would have served as chief executive anywhere between 2017-2287 could have possibly been influenced as a young child by United States President Barack Obama to one day aspire for higher office and bring about great change to our great nation?

What?

Re: The 5th US president on Mt. Rushmore: Was her inspiration Barack O

^ The OP is assuming Obama will be the next US president even though the election is weeks away and there is no sure-fire way of knowing who will ultimately win at this point.

My question is why would a future Black/Native American/Whoever president have to be influenced by someone from their minority in order to be successful? Why couldn't a Black president be influenced by Bill Clinton, Ronald Reagen, or perhaps potential President John McCain?

In Photoshop. I created it (very roughly) like this…

1. Found a big bunch of Obama shots and Rushmore shots, found a good match, making sure Obama was seen from a similarly low angle and had more or less overhead lighting and didn’t have his mouth open (hard to find!).
2. Scaled Obama’s head to correct size and angle and cut out everything apart from his face.
3. Overlayed a black & white filter over everything so I could ignore colour for a moment, then adjusted the lightness curves of Obama to match the lighting of Rushmore.
4. Turned off black & white then used a gradient map filter on Obama to match the colours to the mountains.
5. Made a ridge for his hairline by filling a path. Used the brush tool to get rid of Obama’s hair.
6. Blended the edge of Obama’s face into rocks with eraser/smudge tool.
7. Made the lines of Obama’s features harder-edged by cloning areas selected with the pen or lassoo tools.
8. Copied some rock detail onto Obama’s face and drew some detail on, like lines and stuff.
9.Added shadow to his chin by applying a drop shadow and tweaking that with the eraser.
10. Added noise to Obama by making a noise layer with the noise filter, setting it to overlay, and adjusting the opacity to a low setting.
11. Final adjustment of the curves and “gradient map” adjustment layers.
12. Made the area behind his head darker as his face was the same colour as the background in parts and you couldn’t see it.

Looking back at it with fresh eyes, I think it was a mistake to darken the rocks to the left of his face. It makes it look artificial. If those rocks are dark, his face should be in shadow, too. If you cover up the dark part to the left of him, it looks more realistic! Oh well.

Re: The 5th US president on Mt. Rushmore: Was her inspiration Barack O

I did a little tweaking to my image. The differences are extremely subtle. (Improved rock on the left of the face, added more rock texture, improved shadow, matched sharpness better to other faces, more colour variation, smoothened out some parts of face, etc.).

I know it still looks fake! :D

That is awesome, man.

About 20 years ago, when media pundits considered adding Ronald Reagan as a possible 5th face on Mt. Rushmore they imagined it being placed next to Abraham Lincoln. :borg:

Eh, why put any new face up on Mt. Rushmore? The trend nowadays is to name everything eles (streets, highways, airports, space centers) after them.

Clinton County, Ohio was named after Vice President George Clinton (1805-1812, vice president under Presidents Thomas Jefferson and James Madison, respectively), so you do have a point there.
